Does your fan turn on when you turn on the A/C? If so, your fan is fine. And when you say you replaced the thermostat, are you talking about the actual thermostat under the car and not just the trans thermostats in the expansion tank?

SOURCE: 1991 bmw 318is 4 door 16 valve motor, runs hot and radiator cold

you may have bad waterpump, the impeller on pump may be borken, just because it doesnt leak doesnt mean its good.also could have exhaust entering cooling system (bad headgasket) if pump is good have a block test done.

SOURCE: I have a 2005 325i, my car started overheating all

might sound stupid but did you check the impeller by holding the drive shaft and trying to turn the impeller asnif its a plastic one they tend to come loose on the metal drive shaft and loose power so they are not circulating the coolant ??

SOURCE: I have a 2005 325i,

A BMW that is hot after only two or three miles generally has air in the cooling system. Did you turn on the key and turn up the heater to open the heater valve, and then pour water unto the expansion tank until pure water came out of the bleed screw?

1990 BMW 525i 2.5L engine overheats after rplaceing water pump, stermostat,fan clucth,radiator

There's trapped air in the cooling system.
  • You need to remove the bleeder screw on top of the radiator when adding water to the expansion tank.
  • With the engine running, pour water into the expansion tank till you see air go out through the bleeder screw's hole.
  • Just keep adding water until no more air bubbles come out then just put the screw back in place.
  • Then fill the expansion tank to it's normal level/line.

How is the water flow, bet you that it is poor and this is normally caused by 2 things, thermostat siezed shut and the other is a faulty water pump, both are urgent matters

BMW 318I overheating after new pump/thermostat/ idlers/ tank etc

Just because the headgasket was replaced doesn't mean its sealing. The head itself could be cracked or warped if the previous owner badly overheated it. Can you confirm if the shop who replaced the headgasket had the head checked for straightness and cracks?

We have had some similar problems with some BMW's,the last one we replaced the expansion tank. Before we attached the upper radiator hose to the radiator we filled the engine with antifreeze through the hose.Install the hose and fill your expansion tank to the proper level and run the engine to operating temperature.

HOW DO YOU PURGE OR RELEASE AIR ONCE YOU REPLACE RADIATOR, WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT?

the thermostat (on bmw replacement parts) have an arrow that has to be installed facing upward.if this was done correctly,to bleed the system usually there is a bleeder screw on or near the expansion tank(where you fill the coolant) and possibly on the thermostat housing. i would recommend opening both bleeders and keep filling the system with coolant closing the lower bleeder first and then allow the rest of the air purge from the other bleeder screw.make sure the coolant stays full and be patient you can't wait TOO long.
