Problems with 2008 BMW x5 v8".Transmission has been erratic

Transmission has been erratic. Down shifts abruptly when coasting or in heavy stop and go traffic. Shifts hard under any kind of acceleration. Will hold gear far too long like 6000 rpm or until I go to manual when accelerating going up a grade of any kind. Rough vibration at idle. While lightly breaking will downshift and throw the car forward as the revs build up with a lower gear, this in my view is a safety issue.

SOURCE: Transmission shifts down abruptly when accelerating.

Does it still shift in the right speed. 1st-2nd-15mph 2nd-3rd- 30mph 3rd-4th/overdrive-45mph, +/- a couple mph. if not it is a shift control cable, it's located at the throttle body and adjusted there. this should be covered under warranty. the throttle position senson also controls the shift. you can have this checked. sensors can still be within perimeters and still be bad. check with ohm meter

62te trany 2008 sebring in reverse wants to go forward drive positions no movement

Hello
The issue you're describing with your 2008 Sebring and its 62TE transmission not moving in drive positions but trying to go forward in reverse could be due to a few different things:
  1. Transmission control module (TCM) failure: The TCM is responsible for controlling the shifting of the transmission. If it fails, it can cause the transmission to behave erratically.
  2. Shift solenoid failure: The shift solenoids control the fluid flow to the clutch packs in the transmission. If a solenoid fails, it can cause the transmission to behave abnormally.
  3. Low transmission fluid level: If the transmission fluid level is low, it can cause the transmission to shift erratically or not at all.
  4. Wiring issues: If there is a problem with the wiring in the transmission control system, it can cause the transmission to behave abnormally.
To diagnose and repair the issue, it's recommended that you have the vehicle inspected by a professional mechanic with experience working on transmissions. They will be able to diagnose the problem and make the necessary repairs.
Have a nice day

What will make my 05 Dodge Magnum shift the first to second then go into third and it hit reverse

There could be several reasons why your 2005 Dodge Magnum is experiencing problems with shifting from second to third gear and then suddenly hitting reverse, including:
  1. Transmission Fluid Level: Low transmission fluid level can cause erratic shifting, slipping, or stalling in your vehicle. Make sure to check your transmission fluid level and add if necessary.
  2. Shift Solenoid: A faulty shift solenoid can cause problems with shifting in your transmission. The solenoids control the flow of transmission fluid through the valve body, which controls the shifting of gears. If the shift solenoid is failing or has failed, it can cause the transmission to slip, shift erratically, or get stuck in a gear.
  3. Transmission Pump: The transmission pump is responsible for pumping transmission fluid through the transmission and to the torque converter. If the pump is failing, it may not be able to pump fluid properly, leading to problems with shifting and slippage.
  4. Valve Body: The valve body controls the flow of transmission fluid through the transmission and directs the shifting of gears. If the valve body is failing, it can cause the transmission to shift erratically or get stuck in a gear.
  5. Transmission Control Module (TCM): The TCM is responsible for controlling the transmission's shifting and overall performance. If the TCM is failing, it can cause the transmission to shift erratically or get stuck in a gear.
It's best to have a qualified mechanic diagnose and repair the issue as they will have the necessary tools and expertise to properly diagnose and fix the issue.

Why is car abruptly jolting to a stop in reverse and not moving?

Sounds like the transmission is shifting into both reverse and a forward gear at the same time. Time for a tranny overhaul. But first check the transmission fluid level.

Hello, my 94 FJ80 is recently developed problem with auto transmission. It would not shift to a first gear when in D, so I cave to manually shift it to L, however it will only shift to 2nd, and then to 3...

Well the reason they are telling you that is needs to be rebuilt is because the shift solenoid is bad in the first gear. As 1st and L are different gears they work in tandem. You should not tackle this issue if you are planning to make this repair on your own as this is very involved as you need to disassemble the transmission to make the repair and that rebuilding it would be a good idea since the rebuild will not only fix your issue but offer a warranty on the work.

Transmission shifts down abruptly when accelerating.

It most likely is a transmission issue, a internal issue inside the transmission.

Abrupt shifts

these cars are prone to motor/transmission mount failure. This can lead to erratic shifting. No guarantees but I have seen this a few times.
