You must test first if your alternator produces output voltage (usually about 13.5V)
A test light is a simple but extrememly useful tool.
If you are trying to diagnose and troubleshoot an electrical problem, sometimes a test light can help you rule out possible causes much more quickly and easily than a DMM (Digital Multi Meter)

Make sure you have 12 volts from the positive side of the battery to the starter. Check the small wire on the starter solenoid and make sure you have 12 volts when cranking engine. If voltage is correct, the starter is bad

How long did the 2nd alt. last before it died? The voltage regulator is, I believe, attached to the alternator. Have u had the voltage regulator checked?

Either the gauge is bad, the cable is kinked or the speedometer connector is bad...at the tranny.

Check the wiring between the alternator and the battery, especially at the battery end there is a fusable link there that might be blown.
