Are you talking about engine radiator cooling fan?
If yes there is no switch per say, the fan is connected to a relay and gets activated by the temperature sensor of the coolant, if it is not coming on check for a blown fuse or a bad relay.
If you want to test the fan, connect the fan straight to the car 12V battery and see if it is working.
Make sure that your hands are not close at any time to the fan blades, and don't wear any kind of loose clothing and jewelery.

C180 fan not working all fuses ok What could be the problem

fan resistor broken or the thermal switch on the rad is damaged. remove the wiring and connect something a cross the wiring side with the ignition on if the fan comes on the switch in rad needs replacing they do wear out over time. dont worry about the wiring as its earthing switch. resistor is in the housing on the rad but on some models its on the fan wiring.

My coolent fans on my 1996 firebird are not working. we can get the fans to work by jumping them after removing them from the car. we do not think it is the relay switch. suggestions?

The fans run by a thermal switch separate from the temp guage. It is normally located on the rad. It has probably stopped working. Look around on the inside of the rad tanks and see if you can find a set if wires coming off a plug-in. It is likely near the bottom of the rad tank. Make sure you have a bucket handy when you pull it out, you will lose some coolant. Hope this helps.

198 mercury sable cooling fans motor

Cooling fans ( on radiator ) only come on when the engine reaches a certain (hot) temprature. There is a temp sensor threaded into the radiator end reservoir that switches a relay off and on that runs the fans. Either the temp sensor or the relay is probably bad. Normally , those fans will not be on if the car is moving , the air flow from just driving is sufficient to cool the rad. If you stopped and idled for a while , eventually the rad would heat up enough for the fans to come on.

2001 mitsubishi over heating i have replaced the radiator, thermostat and car still heats up unless i turn on the heater so the fans will run , should the fans be on at all times what else should i check.

Did you make sure to have heater (not defrost) running while you refilled cooling system after repairs ? If not, try refilling with cap off rad, and heater on, and allow coolant to get to operating temperature, where cooling fan at rad should come on. I usually allow fan to come on at least 2-3 times before I put rad cap back on, to insure all air is out of the system. If rad fan doesn't come on when it should, you may have found your problem. If still heats up after that, get back to us and we'll assist further on diagnosing problem. Let us/me know how you make out.

Rad fans stay on when ignition is off audi 100e

should turn off after time, because of the age im not sure if it has a rad fan switch on side of rad, if so its that, unplug and it will stop, replace it, bear in mind it can stay on for upto 3 minutes after a journey, you can increase the temp to stop this coming on so early.
if no rad switch on newer they suffer a bad etc, please note your colour when ordering.
