SOURCE: LOCATION OF LIGHTER FUSE FOR 1996 JEEP GRAND

If you have the owner's manual look up fuses in the index, good illustration. If you don't, I do. It shows a relay and a 15 amp fuse. Look at the passenger kick panel, pull the cover, and it is #2 fuse (second from the top on the left) The see the relay you may have to pull the panel (two screws and a clip) the relay is the third cavity down, third row from the firewal side.
Let me know if this works for you?

SOURCE: 2000 jeep cherokee 4wd hood latch system broken - how do I open

It can be a pain, even for a skill mechanic, BUT you have to get under and trip the leaver or sometime if the cable broke on the inside you can strip the cable shroud and use plyers to pull the cable

If the hood latch is broken, the best thing is to replace it. You can get a new in ebay, or a junkyard.

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a hood latch that does not work. The part of the latch that is operated from inside the car does not engage when I shut the hood. How can I fix this?

It sounds to me that your cable which travels fron the hood latch to the interior handle is binding or sticking. This cable can be replaced, but first check for kinks where it travels thru the frame of the car. Lubricate both the latch assembly and the cable from both ends. With the hood open, the latch inside the car should move freely back and forth and you should be able to feel the spring tension in the latch assembly. The cable is very similar to brake or shoft cables on a bicycle.

I Need to manually open the hood on my 98 jeep grand cherokee limited

If your hood latch doesn't work the you can go through the grill. There will be a cable going to the latch. You will have to use a pair of pliers and pull on the cable away from the latch.

Broken door latch

Yes, it would involve removing the door panel, disconnecting the actuator rods connected to the latch and unbolting the latch from the door.

I have a '96 jeep grand cherokee laredo that the driver side door will not latch closed on. Is this a common problem, and what might the failing-part be?

If the door hinges are not beginning to tear off the body, you may either have a bad latch assembly or you may need to move the striker pin that is sticking out of the door post. I believe yours has a torx socket opening in the end. loosen it and slide it around 'till the latch engages better (usually move it about 1/16 to 1/8" down)

Look for the electrical plung switch which is usually at the front hood corners. Trace the wire back towards the latch.

96 jeep Grand Cherokee tailgate will not open

This is kind of tricky. OK let's start, you have to crawl into the rear hatch area from the inside of the car. You'll have to pull the rear panel off the hatch, a screwdriver between the panel and hatch near the window will work. There might be 2 screws on the panel you could take out. The trick is to pull the panel far away enough to stick your arm down towards the latch and release it by hand. We did this at the dealer all the time.
