Car will suddenly get error code 'hot...a/c disabled' and then shuts off while driving. Mechanic is completely stumped. His diagnostic equipment flags the throttle position control but he says that won't solve this issue. Can anyone help. Frustration running high at this point.
That is likely a ground problem.I had the same issue a few days ago with a customers car.See my response to another individual who has the same problem. It also did away with the hot ac-disabled problem and no more stalling. This might not solve your problem but I would seriously try it.
Does it have a temp gauge? Is the engine overheating? The A/C is shutting down because it thinks the engine is too hot. If it isn't overheating, replace the coolant temp sensor.
Try driving it with the coolant temp sensor unplugged and see if you get the same message. If this is a 3.8 series 2 the coolant temp sensor is attached to the intake near the thermostat. It has a yellow wire and a black wire going to it and it is covered with a silver cardboard little heat shield.

Thank you csmock132 for the quick response. Just to clarify, it's not the a/c shutting down but the engine shutting down while driving. Does that solution still apply? Is that sensor something I could do myself? I know just enough to be dangerous.
One more bit of information that might help. Although the error code says 'hot...a/c disabled' the engine temp is normal. In fact it sometimes happens even before the engine has had a chance to heat up. The problem first occurred a couple of years ago in the dead of winter. Never happened again up til now. Now it is happening over and over again.
Could be your computer going bad and somehow crossing signals.
