The Chevy Equinox has an 80 Amp mega fuse that tends to fail and cause all sort of power steering and Stabilitrak issues. Before I messed with the belts or power steering pumps, I would check the fuse first.
My stabilitrak light came on and I read what was posted in this link. I went to the dealership and spent $10 on the 80 amp mega fuse and it worked! I have not had any reoccurring issues since I did that. However, the dealership did try to talk me into replacing the Stabilitrak censor for $1500! I took a pass on that =-)
What is this fuse called on the panel? I am going to try this BEFORE i take my car to the dealership!
Does it have to be 80 amp

Number One: Check to be sure the belt is tight, If you are hearing a squeal, the belt may look tight but not be. The serpentine belt has a spring tensioner that I have seen fail, and the belt was just barely tight enough to stay in place, but would not turn the power steering pump at times and it has to turn that pulley to pump the fluid, or no power assist to the steering will occur. Number two: Power steering pumps have internal parts that will fail, and cause the loss of internal pressure. It may just be bad. Number Three: If you are not good at mechanic work...Please take it to the best shop you can find. You need smooth operating, power assisted steering at ALL TIMES. There Is No Fuse to Blow. Power steering by Chevrolet is still by fluid/pump.
can i know why i have been rated so lowly even after saying all the chances why your prob may arise. please let me know the reason so that it will be much helpful for me for future reference
There is a fuse to blow in Equinox, from 2004-2009 power steering in these vehicles are electronic. THere is NO power steering fluid in these vehicles.
