My 1994 mercedes c220 is surging and revs up and dies down when at a stop and has also shut down a few times . i changed the fuel filter and it is still doing the same thing i need some help please.
Check your main harness wire. The harness wire becomes brittle and will eventually short circuit your car. Stalling and hard starting is the initial symptom. If not replaced soon, your car will smoke and eventually affect your computer box
i have a 87 mercedes doing same thing. I've researched this for days & this is a known problem for these cars with no known fix that i can find. people have replaced transmissions, sensors, entire fuel systems, wiring harnesses etc etc. thousands of dollars are being spent trying to fix theses cars by people who alreafy spent way too much on them to begin with. I am going to put some "no smoke" in mine & turn the idle up to keep it from dying & sell it cheap !!!!

Check the idle air control valve. it is on the side of the throttle body. it is a small stepping motor which controlls the air that is allowed to go around the throttle plate. on many cars they can clog with carbon so just removing them and cleaning them and the ports with a screw driver will fix idle speed problems.
Check out the EGR valves if you haven't. I've noticed on different forums that this is one component you tend to overlooked when you talk about bad idling. Your egr valve could be sticking open. when it's constantly open it causes a very rough and extremely low idling.
