I have a 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300CE E-Class. I changed the fuel filter and two fuel pumps. I also changed the fuel pump relay. The after market fuel pumps are loud and winding. It seems like a fuel problem. The car runs great for 20 minutes, it gets hot and shuts down. I tried cranking the engine. It won't start but it has spark. We also replaced the crank positioning censor. Any ideas? Thanks.
I had the same problem, took to a benz dealer, it was the fuel pump relay, cost for repair $200.
Check these things thermostat, water pump, Main engine fan, Aux fan, strip fuse for Aux fan, Aux fan relay behind fuses in screwed down cover. Fuel pumps make alot of noise on these might want to check/replace check valve after them.
Also a tune up of coil, cap, rotor plugs and wires is always a good start.
Engine shut down when hot.make sure engine not over heating. use a infra red thermometor point laser at radiator and hoses also the engine. engine should not get over 107 celsius which is 225 degree fahrenheit.
