Fuel rail does not hold static fuel pressure no start 2000 gmc sonoma

It could be a leaking fuel injector or a bad fuel pressure regulator. Do this plug the fuel return line then turn the switch on then off, if the pressure holds replace the fuel pressure regulator. If the pressure bleeds down remove the fuel rail with the injectors still attached and see which ones leak. I hope this helps. Take care.

I have the smell of gas inside my 2004 Monte Carlo, it started over a week ago, no sign of gas leak and gas mileage is still good. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd use a fuel pressure gage and check correct fuel pressure. Once correct pressure builds up, see if pressure holds for a bit with everything off? If pressure drops like rock, you have a fuel pressure leak. Another thought would be evap leak?
How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes?

1999Buick regal gs. Car shut off like it wasnt getting fuel changed filter got me home ran fine then cranks stuts back off like no fuel again blak flood smoke coming out exhaust

Use a fuel pressure gage, check for proper fuel pressure, key on engine off. Then with key off, see if pressure will hold for a bit? If the pressure drops like a rock, check for a fuel pressure leak, check for fuel injector leak and fuel pressure regulator leak. If fuel pressure regulator is connected to fuel rail and has a vacuum line, check to see if gas in the vacuum line, if so, pressure regulator is faulty.

Check for applicable trouble codes? How long since a tune-up?

Get tested fuel pressure regulator how do you know its leaking inside the intake without opening the intake manifold

Fuel from the pressure regulator can't enter the intake manifold with out passing through the injector first. That means that if you have a leak in the inlet manifold you have a leaking injector.
A fuel pressure regulator is no more than a controlled leak. You test pressure on the fuel rail, if you have pressure you have fuel to the injectors.
The regulator controls that pressure by controlling the return flow to the fuel tank. You are in trouble when a pressure regulator does not flow (leak) fuel from the pressure (fuel rail) and return ports.
To test weather a injector is leaking you remove it from the inlet manifold and pressurize the injector.

Gas is being forced out of the fuel tank when the vehicle is running.

A defective fuel pressure regulator (located on the fuel rail) may have blown the gasket on the
fuel pump (located in the gas tank).
Another thing to check - the car's computer may have posted
an error code from the fuel tank pressure sensor.. I'm not sure, but if this sensor shows pressure
building in the fuel tank, rather than let it explode its seals, the sensor may intentionally leak fuel
in order to relieve the internal fuel pressure build-up inside the fuel tank.

On the fuel rail (supplies fuel to the fuel injectors on top of the engine), there will be a Schrader valve,
which is your connection to connect your Fuel Pressure Gauge to your car's fuel rail.
Give it a check, but put a shop rag around the connector as your screw it in - fuel (and fuel
pressure) will leak as you install the fuel gauge.

You may get computer diagnostic codes P0158 or P0159 - see below for interpretation.
Note that the PCM is the Powertrain Control Module, which is the car's computer.
Also "TP sensor" is the throttle position sensor.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trouble Code: P0158

Meaning: HO2S-22 (Bank 2 Sensor 2) Circuit High Input

Possible Causes:

Fuel system is too rich (fuel pressure too high, fuel pressure regulator leaking, or one or more fuel injectors sticking/leaking)

HO2S element is silicon, water or fuel contaminated

HO2S signal circuit is shorted to system power (B+)

HO2S signal tracking (water intrusion) in the connector causing a short between the HO2S signal and heater power circuits

PCM has failed

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trouble Code: P0159

Meaning: HO2S-22 (Bank 2 Sensor 2) Slow Response

Possible Causes:

Exhaust leak present in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes

Fuel system is too rich (fuel pressure too high, fuel pressure regulator leaking, or one or more fuel injectors sticking/leaking)

HO2S element is silicon, water or fuel contaminated

TP sensor element broken (can cause false acceleration event)

Have trouble code 45 on a 1993 s10 blazer 4.3l. Have replaced oxygen sensor, did not help

1994 Chevrolet S10 Blazer 4.3L, Vin W Customer Concern: DTC 45 The spark plugs are black on both banks. Right bank plugs are damp. Removed the tuning valve and looked inside the plenum. Can see a washed/clean area on the right side. Fuel pressure is good, it holds when the pump stops. Tests/Procedures: 1. Remove the upper intake plenum cover and inspect for a fuel leak at the fuel pressure regulator.

2. Inspect the fuel pressure regulator and return lines and fittings at the left side of the plenum.

3 Replace the Central Multipoint Fuel Injection (CMFI) unit. Potential Causes: Leaking Fuel Line - One or more may have a problem.
Leaking Fuel Pressure Regulator
Tech Tips: The fuel pressure regulator may only leak at a cold or hot engine, only with vacuum applied, or only without vacuum applied. The leaking at the fuel lines and fittings have as often been the result of repairs as the initial cause of the problem. Handle the lines and fittings carefully. The fuel pressure regulator is a integral part of the Central Multi-port Fuel Injection (CMFI) unit. Any failure requires entire unit replacement.

Hello and welcome to Fixya.com
have you run a fuel pressure leak down test? if not you need to do this test, borrow or buy a fuel pressure test gage, they are about $12 at Kragen, the fuel pressure test port is on the top of the engine in the fuel rail that goes over the injectors, looks like a tire valve, hook up the gage and verify you have no leaks, then start the engine and turn if off while watching the fuel pressure, the pressure should not bleed down by more than 5 pounds after engine stops running, if it quickly looses pressure u will need to replace the fuel pump, this is called a leak down test, fuel pressure leak down is the #1 cause of hard starting rough running cold, other things cause it as well like a loose timing belt and worn out plugs and dirty fuel injectors, and worn engine parts, but start with the leak down and then go from there.
