Battery not holding charge...yang overnight 07 RAV4 4

The battery itself isn't holding a charge or the car won't start?

It is easy to see if the battery is dead with a simple voltage meter at any auto parts store. Most RAV4s need a new battery after about 8 years on the road in my experience.

If the battery still has a charge but the car won't start, you have a problem with the cables from the battery to the starter.

1992 Mazda mpv . Won't hold charge . Engine won't

The first thing to do is have the battery tested, just because you charged it doesn't mean it will stay charged if the cells are sulfated up or shorted.

Auto won't down shift when o/d button is pushed

This button only makes the gearbox change from 3rd to 4th or 4th to 3rd, will not down shift in any other gear, make sure it is in 4th gear, usually above 60km, than press o/d off it should go into 3rd gear, if it does not than see a automatic specialist, it is usually a sensor, if you go to Toyota they will charge you a fair bit.

Battery light stays on

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If the battery light is on, I strongly suggest that you have the battery charged. It can be an indication of a weak battery or a faulty alternator. If the battery light still on after charging then the problem will surely be on the alternator itself. If that's the case the alternator should be replaced to resolve the problem.

If the battery won't hold charge even on a new alternator then the problem will be on the battery itself. It surely is in the end of it's service life and replacement will be necessary.

You may try to reset it to by removing the positive battery connector, letting it sit for at least 5mins. then reconnect it again. This will reset the system and can get the battery light off.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

After driveing 1000 miles my battery is dead. It was fine all the way home. It will not hold a charge after a jump start. Could it just be the battery, or something else?

Batteries sometimes die completely for no apparent reason even though they were working fine only minutes beforehand. Try a new battery and also get the charging rate checked by a knowledgeable person.
