Remove two screws in center console and one in the tray under the dash or two in cup holders depending on design. Small Allan wrench metric in side or front of shifter. If horizontal slot front and rear of shift knob then reach in with small beetle nose or push with small screw driver on other ends of a horseshoe clippy out of slot. Lift up on console. The cable on right is the transmission shift. And the one on the left is the brake switch activated cable that runs up to the column. Pry evenly on both sides with two prybars and cable will pop off. Its not fun pulling bottom of column apart.

Getting my 97 Ford expedition into neutral without a key

Brake-shift interlock The brake-shift interlock feature prevents you from shifting from P(Park) unless the brake pedal is depressed (with the ignition in the On position). If you cannot move the gearshift out of P(Park) with the brake pedal depressed: 1. Turn ignition key to Off. 2. Apply the parking brake. 3. Turn ignition key to Lock and remove the key. 4. Re-insert the ignition key and turn it to Off. 5. Shift the transmission to N(Neutral). 6. Start the vehicle. If you need to use the above procedure, it is possible that a fuse has blown and your brakelamps may not be functioning. Refer to the Roadside emergencies chapter for instructions on replacing fuses.

My new 2017 toyota sequoia will not shift into park and am unable to remove the key from the ignition

The shifter linkage needs to be adjusted, it's your only answer to your problem. With the transmission in park, adjust the linkage to push the shift lever up to the park position. Then the key can be removed. This interlock is made this way to keep you from moving the shifter without first turning the key from lock position. Just a theft deterrent.

My 1992 Toyota 4x4 pickup key won't turn all the way off without disconnecting the battery. What could cause this?

is this a console shift? if so its most likely not getting the signal that its in park. There is a switch on the shifter that wont the key be removed without the vehicle being in park.

Can shift without applying brakes

There should be a cable that goes from the key lock to the shifter. That cable may be broken. There should also be a lock solenoid that requires you to push on the brake pedal to get the shifter out of park.
You would need to disassemble the console to get access to the shifter and then inspect these components.

I turn off the car, but key will not come out of ignition. Lock on shifter doesnt work. I can shift without pushing button on shifter. This is an automatic.

We had this problem on 06 and it is the shift button that doesn't pop out. You may be able to pull it out so you can remove the key for now. We had ours fixed under warranty (replaced)
