The outside casing is still intact but the mirror glass and its plastic backing have been broken off. it is a electric power unit. i have a second hand replacement complete unit with casing but want to know how to just take the mirror glass and its backing out of this replacement unit to put in the broken one.
SOURCE: Replace passenger side power mirror clearance lamp (bulb only).
If you are facing the passenger side mirror adjust the top (large) mirror so that it is turning in towards the truck as far as it will go. Then look behind the mirror in the bottom righthand corner (outside bottom corner) and you will see a silver metal clip. Take a straight head screw driver and push on that clip and the lens will pop out. Then you simply unscrew the bulb holder from the lens and replace your bulb. Good luck!

You can buy stick on replacement mirror glass for most models in good motor accessory shops. These just stick on to the existing glass if there is enough left to stick it to.
If not the dealer will supply the glass seperately but its a little tricky to fit and might be well worth letting them fit it too as it is very easy to break while fitting.

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door

Muth makes the signal mirrors for repalcing the glass in the mirror head. On the site, they have nice instructions you can use for removing the door panel, and getting the mirror off ( obviously stop at the removing the glass part, and just replace with the mirror head you already have ).
Enter the Make, MY, and model you have, and on the products page are the links to the PDF version of the instructions for download.
