1993 XJ6 Jaguar has black smoke coming out of the tail pipe
Hello, my name is thedon052001 and i just pruchased the 1993 jaguar xj6 and there are some problems to it, the main problem is that the security system needs to be reset or taking out and i need an exhaust system and fuel pump what is the best thing for me to do
Hi there. Black smoke is usually an indication that the fuel ratio is too rich - using too much fuel. An emmisions tester and engine diagnosic machine can identify which cylinders are running rich, but as a quick check, once you have the engine at normal operating temperture, simply remove each spark plug and look at the colour of the centre core - it should be a light grey colour. I think you will find that either one of more plugs will be black indicating a rich mixture on a particular cylinder. You then need to identify the reason for the rich mixture - most likely an injector not closing properly or an Injection ECU problem. My recommendation is to firstly visit a Tuning Shop and have them hook the engine up to a tester and see what the readings say. Hope this helps, Scottech.
