Not sure if the 2006 models are similar to the 1996 models in this aspect, but I will assume they are. In the center console (the junk box) at the back is a switch (Valet), when this switch has been pressed, the glove box and the boot (trunk), can only be opened with the Master key being physically inserted into the lock (the hole next to the model label on the boot), this is so that the valet with only the valet key (green key), can not get access to your luggage/valuables. Once it has been physically unlocked with the master key (black key), it will again open by poking kitty on the nose (button press).

SOURCE: Unlocking Boot lid

I am assuming your problem is similar to mine; the key fob isn't dead, but for some reason the boot won't release.  This happens rarely, but can be very frustrating (and embarrassing)!

When neither the key fob nor the release on the boot work, lock and unlock the car, and insert the key into the ignition.  Turn the key to the second stage, i.e. the accessories are powered, and then remove the key.  This ought to allow you to use the fob again.

SOURCE: electrochromic rear view mirror does not dim when turned on

These mirrors are all made by one company, no matter the car maker, they all have the same problems, they are very unreliable, if u have power to the mirror which I am 100% sure u do the mirror will need to be replaced, they are not repairable they are about $250-300

SOURCE: My key won't open the trunk of my car. Jaguar XJ6

May not be the answer but something I just learned. I was handed the "key" to my aunt's XJ6 and she asked me to clean it up for her,,, but what I found was that the "key" she handed me was the VALET key and would not open the trunk. I had to go back and get the other key from her. The VALET key was green while the masters that open all are black.

SOURCE: My 2004 Jaguar xj8 will not release both latches

If your bonnet will not release, there is a rubber plug inside fender located up in
the wheel well under the latch. Remove the plug, stick a screwdriver up and pry the latch
back. The hood / bonnet will open.

My 1996 jaguar vanden plas trunk switch on the driver side of the car doesnt work and my key doesnt work. How do i hotwire the trunk to make it open?

check fuses and relays --check power to switch and test switch if switch bad replace and if need access now can jump switch to release actuator --but if key doesnt work either the problem sounds like a damaged latch or debris stuck in latch lock --if key turns try pushing down and up on trunk if latch is not cooperating then will need to remove rear seat

Trunk is locked/jammed and remote won't open it.

Under the hood is a fuse box with a stud in the fuse holder put pos on that lug and ground to engine. Is your battery dead also?

Boot will not open on key fob xtype jag

it may be the boot latch switch is faulty the gem module that controles this funtion may think the boot is already open, or the latch release solenoid/motor may have failed, or a broken wire. around the boot hinge, have you tried your spare remote to eliminate that? if you cant get in your boot at all you will have to remove the rear seats to gain access to the boot area and then remove the latch cover and open manually so you can diagnose the fault, hope this helps

What options do I have in gaining access to the trunk of my 2004 jaguar xj8 that has gone into valet lockout

all back seats are either screwed down or hooked in. you need to use a little muscle and lift up your back seat to see which is which. there is no other way to gain entry to your trunk.Trust me Ive locked my keys in my trunk too. Now i have a hidden spare to my door and trunk. GOOD LUCK

Stuck transmission on 2004 jaguar X type

This is because you must depress the brake to energize a solenoid to release the shifter, you must get the hood open. sometimes if you have someone push down on the hood as you pull the lever it will open. if not remove the air dam under the bumper and try to move the latches manually by reaching up with something long. Good luck.

How to open trunk jaguar x-type?

If you push the boot release button, and the number plate lights flicker, you have a chafed earth. Common, and has caught me a couple of times. Punch through the ski bag in the rear seat. Reach in to either side for the seat release cables. Pull and release the seat. Drop the seat then drop the second seat. Now lie on your belly and crawl into the boot to dismantle the boot release cover. Pull the arm and open the boot. Now you can work properly. With the boot lid up, release the cable guide on the left, and look for a chafed wire. fix it. While you are at it, fix a bike brake cable to the lock mechanism and run it to somewhere you can access it with the seats up, so that if it goes again, you can just pull the cable.

Jaguar x type 2.5 v6 se auto 2001

Mine did the same. The release as you know is electric on the boot rear button - and not mechanical as on other cars. The switch is telling the lock that you want it open still, so it will not latch. Try lightly pushing the button again a couple of times, and it may click off again, and Bob's your Uncle!!! I spent 10 minutes closing the boot lid with varying degrees of slamming before I discovered this remedy. Good Luck!
