Manual or auto? if auto look to the lockout switch in the gearbox, it is normally only effective in D or R but when faulty it is open and thinns you are in D or R and stops you starting it, have the same problem on my W168 A170 CDi. had to fit a bypass relay to use the car, still using it as the repair is over $2000.

I'm thinking a problem with the battery and/or connections . Have the battery load tested for a dead cell . If the battery or terminals are bad there will be no power to let you get the key out and there will be no cranking noise either . A faulty CPS will allow the engine to crank but not fire

Where is crankshaft position sensor located on impala 2014 new body

Your vehicle's crankshaft position sensor, commonly abbreviated and referred to as a CPS sensor, CKP sensor, or CAS (crank angle sensor), is a key component to your engine control system. It is typically located on the front of the engine on the timing cover. The crank sensor uses a pickup (usually a Hall effect sensor) to determine the position of the crankshaft and sends the info to the vehicle's computer. The computer uses this information from the crankshaft sensor to control engine parameters such as ignition timing. This sensor can also be sometimes referred to as an "engine speed sensor (ESS)" or a "rotational speed (RPM) sensor" as well.

Crankshaft Positioning Sensor Replacement
Problems with the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) on Mercedes-Benz cars are fairly common. If you have been experiencing stalling or no start conditions, a failed crankshaft position sensor is often the problem. Your CPS may have failed if the engine cranks but it will not start. At first, you may experience no start conditions intermittently. As the crankshaft position sensor fails completely, the car will no longer start or will die when you are driving. Starting problems are initially random, but more frequent when the engine is hot. Other symptoms of a failed crankshaft position sensor are poor acceleration, engine vibrations, poor throttle response, bad fuel economy, hesitation, engine stalls. The engine starts if you let it cool down. If you are stuck on a parking lot and the car will not start, let the car cool down at least 30 minutes and then try again. ( Thanks to MB Medic)

I have fuel but no spark. what can it be?

it could be a crank sensor, ignition module, coil, if this has a distributor could be pickup coil or a bad distributor, bad cap/rotor. could also be a PCM problem on the ignition circuit.

Mazda B4000 intermittant cranks but won't start - no spark

CPS? You replace the crankshaft position sensor on the front of the engine or the camshaft position sensor on the rear of the intake? Was it doing the same thing before you replaced it. You might have got a bad one.

Electrical

A. See web link at bottom of page. Some 1989 and early 1990 vehicles equipped with the 4.0 liter engine and automatic transmission may experience an engine no-start, hard restart, or an engine die-out. This condition may be caused by low signal strength from the Crankshaft Position Sensors (CPS) due to a larger than desired distance to the engine flywheel sensing ring.
What you need to do is check to see if the vehicle has a slotted crank position sensor. If the vehicle is equipped with a slotted crank position sensor, Figure 1, check to see if the CPS grommet on the top of the transmission bell housing has been updated, see Figure 2. If the CPS grommet has not been updated, replace the CPS grommet.
You'll need a Crankshaft Position Sensor, slotted, part number 83100067 and Crankshaft Position Sensors Grommet, dust cover, part number 83100068. When you install it, make certain that the CPS is completely bottomed on the machined lip of the bellhousing and is as close as possible to the flywheel sensing ring without contacting it. go to this web page for diagram: http://autorepair.about.com/cs/faqs/l/bl557h.htm

2001 ford ranger

this truck has a swich under the gloves comparament it cutoff fuel pump power if the swich is on the off position.
if it crank but no spark or no fuel or both you may need to check the crankshaft position sensor (cps sensor) if your batery gate on your dashbord goes donw every time you crank it you may have a bad start motor. some time you may hear just a clic clic every time you crank and that is cused for stikin selenoid on the starter motor and you need to repe it.
