Is the \'Service Engine Soon\' light on? Only from what you described, it sounds like the engine\'s running in \'open loop\' (fast idle, cold) okay, then when it\'s supposed to go into \'closed loop\', you have a malfunction. Checking the trouble codes will pinpoint the problem; your truck is pre-\'95 so it\'s the older OBD-I and you could get the trouble codes by grounding the proper terminal in the ALDL, counting the blinks of the SES light and using it to determine what electronic control device is malfunctioning. If no SES light/trouble codes and since you ran out of gas (?), it might be time to replace the fuel filter and possibly check the fuel pressure and/or fuel pump.
May have sucked up some sludge and blocked some jets ,try a fuel addative specific for blocked fuel lines etc ,other wise strip down the inj/carb and clear any obstruction

This is water in your fuel lines. when it was very cold, the water in the lines froze. when it melts, it runs to the injector system and causes these types of things to happen during acceleration. i would pick up some techtron. ths is good stuff. it will remove the water and, clean out the fuel system.
SOURCE: car runs fine when cold, when warm it stalls
My first guess is a vacuum leak or maybe a defective IAC. Tests need to be run to narrow the search down.
Testimonial: "Was bad egr valve. had leak in diaphram."
SOURCE: 1990 1500 runs good when cold but when it warms up rough idle then stalls
Remove the EGR you have carbon, that is keeping the pintle open,if there is no carbon and the pintle is open replace it.
