Assume you have gas. BMW does not like to start or run if the battery voltage gets too low (for example sitting in the driveway unused. It does not take long with all the electrical drain(computer, security, etc.). A peculiar item about M cars is if the oil gets 3 quarts low, the engine wont start to protect the engine. Other less common camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, ignition coil pack, fuel filter, fuel pump. If it does not crank but battery is fine, check the starter. Turn the ignition to ON but not START then if you cannot hear the fuel pump humming, the fuel pump itself or a relay to it is probably bad. Using a rubber mallet, give a couple of sharp blows to the underside of the fuel tank and then try to start. If it starts, fuel pump is bad. Fuel pump is located under the back seat on the passenger side-easy to get to.

Wont crank?
or cranks robustly (the crankshaft spins fast) but wont start.
all cars that dont start one, all ran when new. etc.
what counts is the now. only.
you need to do the tests. all covered in the FSM or at alldata.com
i cant help you because you . cuz did not say crank or start? so......

1: test all fuses. (not just gandering, use a meter)
2: check battery voltage 12.6vdc rested.
3: if not cranking, wiggle the shilter (a/t) or clutch if m/T
if a/t? try cranking in Neutral. cranks now? bingo.
4: cranks ok, and fast so check spark/

ill end there, due to vast number of tests and no clear stated
symptoms.
ever give it a full tuneup (60,000 mile service schedule?) or this DECADE. if not why ask the spark plug question.

the fuel pump does not fix , no cranks. sorry, BUZZZZ,

that cures , cranks and not starts, and spark is good, and test fuel runs the engine for 3 seconds, so fuel pressure is next. LOGIC, use logic to diagnose. not guessing.

check for spark at each spark plug. (the classic test for otto cycle engines) if you have spark good, if not work backwards from there. 9 days old, i bet its fixed now.. huh?

a full battery is 12.6v no 10, or 9v, and stays above 10v cranking,

SOURCE: battary light on , engine cut off car won't crank

sounds like it's your alternator, your alternator charges your battery and runs car once it is started. if you have a bad alternator your battery light will come on, and shortly after your vehicle will die, unable to restart without a jump. I would take your battery to autozone or an auto shop to have your battery and alternator tested.

SOURCE: 1995 bmw 318is new alternator battery dieing

check all the lighting on the car, IE: trunk light, glove box light, light under the hood, any small light make sure they shut off ,check to see if you have a phone charger left in the cig. lighter, radar detector ETC. any of those things can drain a battery over night quick.if you dont find anything wrong then you may have a short somewhere in the electric system... hope this helps you...

SOURCE: no crank

shorting to start motor will allow the motor to turn but the ignition system is still off.
try with key turned to ignition position.
suspect starter solenoid on starter motor.
suspect fuses maybe there is a fuse which has blown.
suspect ignition key switch maybe defective.

My 97 dodge avenger wont start

It sounds like a bad starter, but you still have to check power at starter start wire for 12 volts when the key is turned to start position. It is the smaller wire plugged into the starter. You still also have check for a good ground cable, most have bad grounds. Also, you need to check for proper voltage at the batterry first, to determine whether or not it is starter related. If the battery is dead then more than likely it is an
alternator.

You either have a short/large draw in your electrical system or your alternator is bad. Remove the alternator and have it tested at your local parts store.

Okay, I got my battery changed back in 06, and its been working fine, til about 5 hrs ago. I parked my cae in the driveway, an wen I came back out, it wouldn't start. Wouldn't even turn or click over. Well...

So your saying you have no crank and no start correct?
If you answered yes Its either the wires going to the starter , starter relay or the starter itself. This is not a biggie . I recommend you have the vehicle towed to a repair shop . This type of repair requires a new part and some elbow grease in a safe location.

My ford was starting no prob put new batterry now wont start any suggesstion

Check your battery connections. Make sure there is not a protective coating on the posts that needs sanded off and check that the battery was charged when you bought the battery. Not all batteries sold are pre-charged.
