Transmission stuck in high gear - 1995 Ford F350

Manual transmission stuck in high gear? There could be something blocking the shifter not allowing it to move out of the gear. Could be a bad clutch cylinder not allowing the clutch disc to separate from the flywheel allowing the transmission to be stuck in the gear. Could be a lack of fluid in the clutch master cylinder causing problems. Just a few things that you can check.

That gear is damaged in transmission. The car gets stuck because of that. The gears lock together. The car Rev because transmission won't move and engine power keeps increasing.

Assuming an automatic transmission...your transmission's high-speed Lock-up solenoid is stuck on....you can pull the "lock-up" electrical connection off the transmission (and hopefully it'll disengage, once cooled) and see how the car functions. You will be able to get around...but you won't have the high-speed energy efficient lock-up option unless until you get a transmission specialist to go in and fix it (internal to transmission).

are there any codes? Does it shift ok in 1st and 2nd? sounds like your over drive shift solenoid or your 3 and 4 shift solenoid is stuck and needs to be replaced

Can be issue with transmission or its related components.Many car models face such problems.

The transfer case is stuck in the low range. If manual shift try shifting from low to high several times to see if free up. If electronic, check all fuses and make sure you hear transfer case change range. Do this by shifting with key on engine off. If no change refer to qualified transmission mechanic.

P1723 A/t control relay - Stuck on.
This Code is showing that the main control relay of the transmission is stuck on. When that happens transmission goes in to the fail safe mode which is being stuck in 3rd gear to prevent damage to the transmission
