Safety catch on hood wont release and hood wont re latch!

I would check to see if the hood release moves when the inside lever is pulled then pushed, if not the cable and latch mechanism may need lubrication or be broken.

Hood latch won't latch when closing

Raise hood, have some one go pull hood latch and you look at latch and see if it releases,if it doesn't then cable may need replacing,I would'nt completely shut hood cause you may not get back open, also check hood latches bolts and latch for something bent or broken.

Hood wont catch on the main latch on my 1998 montana

Hi JM, The catches do wear out and more likely the cables become frayed and do not allow the hood catch to return to the correct position for locking. Try pushing in the handle inside the car. If it work then have the cable replaced asap. If not , you may need to replace the catch mechanism Regards John

When I pull the hood release, the hood doesn't pop up. I either have to have a second person lift slightly on the hood while I pull the release, or I have to wedge something under the edge of the hood...

No the bumpers don't do that. After time it seems the latch itself bends. Look at it and see where it is hitting. There is some adjustment in the catch at the bottom/grill. But I usually just bend the latch left or right as needed. You can use a pry bar to bend it or just hit it with a hammer. Be careful not to hit the hood.

Can't close the hood. Latch won't catch.

Be sure the inside hood release is completely dis-engaged...spray something like PB Blaster (auto parts stores AND Walmart...:) on the latch assembly...this is an excellent lubrication for your latch...being sure to release the inside handle should re-align the latch to allow it to catch...Hope this helps...:)

I can't open the hood of my 97 chevy lumina?

Take a flashlight and observe the latch, under the hood, and try to find what exactly is catching on what. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry away whatever is catching, and open your hood.

My hood on my jeep liberty will not complety shut? the only thing holding it down it the saftey latch.

Look at the hood alignment to make sure it's aligned properly and allowing the latch to catch. If the hood is fine you'll need to adjust the latch. Start by lubricating the latch mechanism so that it moves freely. Many times a hood will fail to latch properly because the latch itself isn't moving freely. Next check the area where the hood latches to the body and see if it's coming up short. If so manually adjust the latch until it's in proper position to grab and hold.

Front hood wont lock closed. i drop the hood and it doesnt catch. it catches on loosely but not the secure closure

you have a problem with your primary hood latch, your secondary latch keeps it from flying up into your windshield. inspect the pri. latch, it may have stuck and won't close. a thorough soaking with a good penetrating oil usually frees it up. if not you may have to replace the latch.

Hood latch won't release hood. 91 volvo 240.

Have had same problem on 1990 240 DL. Go underneath, tap ball at end of hood latch sideways with small hammer (take a good look at it --- you should be able to see which way it needs to go to clear). Once released clean and lubricate.
