SOURCE: Clutch replacement details for 1996 legacy GTB
Trust me it is quite an excercise and not worth doing yourself. With the proper tools, a hoist and a my mate who is a Guru Subaru Mech it took 4 hours. Without having done it before and without the Hoist ( which is wha I was going to do initially ) I'd say you wouldn't get much change out of 8 - 12 hours.
SOURCE: timing belt on 1996 subaru legacy 2.5L
There is a belt tensioner that you need to collapse and put a small nail or I use a pop rivet to hold the tensioner off while I align the timing belt. Then remove the rivet or nail to allow the tensioner to work. Good luck, take your time and have a good day.

SOURCE: can i tow 94 subaru legacy awd with a tow dolly
Not true. If you have the fuse in place to disconnect the rear wheels it is safe to tow on a dolly. Subaru recommends not more than 40 MPH and only for short distance if it is an automatic. Manual may be towed longer distance. Have a great day.
