Had this problem too, and you need to check that your TPS sensor plug.harness is tight, the best way to do that is to actually unplug it, blow it out and then plug it back in. But the same problem happened again and it turned out to be the CPS plug had come loose, again check it and make sure it's seated well, and everyone will tell you to replace them, but if take a wooden dole, or stick and can tap yours gently down towards the transmission I've found that it works well after that.

Engine starts and idles fine, but will not rev up (2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.1 diesel auto)

If it was a fuel shortage the engine would rev but to limited speed. This is a lack of air to throttle body. Check for clogged air filter and all the piping and the throttle body.

Need to use gas pedal to star in the morning after warmed up in starts fine

Just a little technical information: Your jeep does not have a "gas" pedal. Your Jeep has an "accelerator" pedal. This may sound trivial, but if you understand this, it will help you to know what is going on. The accelerator does not control the gas, it controls the air going into your engine. If the engine will not start until you give it more air, then the problem is most likely an Idle Air Control solenoid (IAC) that is sticking closed during cold operation. This is a common problem. Replacing the IAC will probably fix the problem.

My 1995 jeep grand cherokee has been sitting for two months since my last hunting trip in the mountains where it ran fine. I just tried to start it and it wont start without gas pedal assistance. It runs...

replace the idle air control valve and that will solve your problem good luck, hope this helps, here is a picture of the part and a diagram of its location on the motor.a525a96.jpg025ab0a.gifc847fef.gif

My jeep wont start. we checked the battery. the jeep will idle for a few seconds and then when you hit the gas it stalls

try starting it with the pedal pressed in a little and run it for a few seconds like that and put some injector cleaner in it. also if it stalled and wont restart then try pressing the pedal all the way to the floor because it could be flooded and that will cut off the fuel supply

When starting in cold weather, the car races and then almost stalls (revs go between 400 to 2300), after it warms up it's fine.

I would look at the coolant temp sensor.  The sensor is what controls the idle when temp is below a certain degree so it wont stall because it is cold.  To over ride this feature you need to press the gas pedal to the floor then start it.  If it works as it should go to your local parts store and buy a coolant temp sensor and change it out.  If you are not familiar with your car you can buy a Haynes manual and it will walk you through the process step by step.
