My 2000 Saturn SL2 is a 5 speed manual. I use the emergency brake every time I park. Now I am having problems with the emergency brake alarm going off when I am driving. If I wiggle the emergency brake it will stop for a little while and then starts again. Also when I stop and the emergency brake light is on the day running lights blink out. The brakes work fine and the only problem I have with the car is that it burns oil. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: DASH LIGHTS

Check the emergency brake handle. When it is pulled up even one click (in my car) the brake light on the dash comes on and the daytime running lights shut off. Either the handle is up just far enough to activate the switch and not the brakes or the switch could be bad or loose.

SOURCE: 1993 Saturn SL stalling

First, if the SES light is on or comes on a little after it is running it has a code set in the computer. Itis easy to read the code on an OBD1 system by jumping the A-B terminals on the DLC Data Link, block under the drivers side see the following link for better explanination of reading the codes, http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/
Also review the following on the O2 Sensor and coolent temp sensor http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37884 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ9vtD_ssjg, good luck you can fix this vehicle easily.

SOURCE: Emergency Brake Light when I Accelerate 1996 Saturn SL (manual)

Right now my car has the EXACT same problem. 1997 Saturn SC1. The car is shaky in acceleration and the ebrake light occasionally turns on for no reason. I previously had this problem (minus the ebrake light coming on) and was able to fix it by replacing the spark plugs and spark plug wires. I'm not sure if it's the same problem this time, but it's an easy fix to find out. Plugs are 1-3 dollars each and the cables are 25-35 dollars. I am going to replace the plugs and wires this weekend to see if it fixes the problem. I have no idea why the ebrake light is coming on though.

Adjust parking brake 2000 e350 super duty

A SOLUTION for my 95 E350 club wagon: High speed vibration at 70 that went extreme if braking. Checked and replaced every other likely cause. The fix came when discovering that in the rear drums the mechanism to activate the emergency/parking brake was jammed and corroded. This caused the brakes to drag slightly and heat up and glaze the brake shoes. Cleaning and lubricating that mechanism (along with new shoes) made the severe vibration go away. The mechanic said that in 20 years of fixing cars, he had never seen this.
The vibration felt like it was in the front end, but not so. Before finding the problem there was wasted costs in parts and labor that did not fix the problem; including wheel balancing, rotor and pad replacements, shoe and drum replacement, wheel bearing replacement, suspension bushing replacement, shock absorber, pitman arm, sway bar, ball joints, sway bar bushing replacement, and ball joint.
Hopefully you can save all that cost and time by a quick check of the drum emergency brake mechanism. The good side is my suspension is good for another 200,000 miles now. That was costly.

My 2000 cadillac escalade accelerated and the brakes were not working

That is not an emergency brake, it is for parking only. Get this checked outby a brake shop or general repair shop ASAP, DO NOT DRIVE IT!

I have a 2000 Saturn ls2 that will not go into park. Can you tell me why? Every other gear works fine.

You probably have a linkage problem that needs to be addressed. For now, start your car in neutral, and instead of park use neutral and set the parking brake. Also turn your wheels toward the curb if you park on a hill just in case the parking brake fails

Shift lever will not move out of park. Engine is running, seat belt fastened, parking brake released, all doors hood and trunk closed, foot firmly on brake pedal. When the button on the side of the shifter...

you should hear a click from the solenoid when you apply the brakes. If your brake lights don't work, your shift lock release won't either. There is a bypass method for emergencies in your owner manual. Check fuse for brake lights. And switch on brake pedal

Gearbox fault light shows. Higher rpms between 60-70.

There is a modified Park pawl kit that can help fix this. also try pull on the park brake before putting the car in park then releasing foot brake

Loose emergency brake on 2004 Saturn Vue

  1. Apply and fully release the park brake several times. Verify that the park brake lever releases completely.
  2. Turn ON the ignition. Verify the red BRAKE warning lamp is not illuminated.
  3. If the red BRAKE warning lamp is illuminated, verify the following:
    • The park brake lever is in the fully released position and against the stop.
    • There is no slack in the park brake cable.
  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disable the SIR system.
  3. Remove the front floor console.
  4. With the park brake lever in the released position, using ONLY hand tools, loosen the adjusting nut completely to the end of the front cable threaded rod.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6. Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies.
  7. Adjust the rear drum brakes.
  8. Ensure there is no brake shoe drag after adjustment by rotating the brake drums. If drag exists, re-center the brake shoes and perform the brake shoe adjustment again.
  9. Install 2 wheel nuts to the wheel studs and firmly hand tighten in order to retain the brake drums.
  10. Lower the vehicle to permit access to the park brake lever.
  11. Raise the park brake lever 1 detent position. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
