Sounds like your power booster is bad. You are hearing a vacuum leak on the booster when you push the brake. It will also be accompanied by a harder than normal pedal.

I have the same problem on my 2010 hhr but the pedal is soft. Goes to the floor but a hissing sound coming from where the brake pedal rod goes into? Replaced the abs pump, and a bad drum cylinder. Blend the brakes and still have the same problem? I don't know if it is the booster or the master cylinder?

Hello , I have ford excape , XLT 2006 modle. When i press brake pedal , i can hear slugish noise from the pedal. Please explain the problem

Hi Rashid, I'm not very sure what sound you're hearing. If it's a metallic sound take the vehicle and have the brakes checked for wear of pads and shoes and have whatever is worn replaced. Regards Johngee10

2006 HHR with automatic transmission. I hear a solanoid clicking sound coming from the shifter area like a solinoid when I start the car and push the brake pedal before pressing the shift button and going...

This time only, your dealer is right. The sound is the Brake to Shift Interlock (BTSI) solenoid releasing the shift lever when you apply the brake. The sound is normal and won't hurt anything but I understand your concern.

How do I change the front brake discs and brake pads on a 2006 Chevy HHR LS model 2.2L 4 Cyl.?

Changing the pads is very straight forward and is no different from any other disc brake equipped vehicle. However, if you have never changed disc brakes before I would NOT recommend you do so on you HHR without either a shop or technical manual. Changing the rotors is very easy - they slide off the mounting studs once the disc calipers are removed.

I have a 2006 chevy HHR with 17400 miles on it. It has a clicking noise in the front end when going over bumps. When lifting front of car, the axle feels loose on the transaxle side of shaft on both sides....

On my cobalt (same platform) there is a known bad engine mount that clunks (like you have bad shocks) when you go over bumps.
If you look under the car from the front, you can see its a circle, (supposed to be ) filled with a rubber/composite bushing. They crack and this causes the banging.
It is supposed to look like this...

However, the rubber breaks off and your engine is flopping around.
This part needs a press to press out the old piece, so a mechanic would be the best repairman for the job.

The scraping noise is a different problem. I would suggest CV joints, but being a 2006, they shouldnt be bad unless you tow, or accelerate heavily.
I would lean toward a bad wheel bearing with the symptoms you are describing - also a job that requires a press.
You're in for quite a bill!
Figure $250 each wheel bearing and another 100 or so to fix the mount.
Dealership would be 2x that.
Good Luck!!

How to change front disk brake pads on a 2007 chevy hhr

good day,

although it can be done yourself, i suggest that you seek assistance from a competent technician from chevy when replacing your brakepads since this involves proper settings and allignments. it may also need special tools to disassemble and reaasemble the unit.

i hope this will help

Brakes

Hissing or scratching sound is usually related to consumed brake pads/ shoes or deformed disks.
Usually you fix it by replacing brake pads, in some case you also need to change the disk, but this is less frequent, and happens when you keep circulating with consumed brake pads for many miles.
If you have a vehicle with brake shoes instead, you need to replace and calibrate brake shoes .
