Sounds like bad brake pulsation, meaning warped rotors. When rotors are warped , they push the caliper piston in and out ,causing the brake pedal to pulsate and shake the steering wheel. I would start with replacing the front pads and rotors, and if you have drum brakes in the rear, have those cleaned and adjusted for a more balanced braking system.

1970 ford f250 shakes real bad when I let off the gas. Any ideas I'm stumped

it depends what shakes ? if it only dose it when your slowing right down without braking then it could be an engine mount. if your braking it could be many things from warped disks to track rod ends/ball joints/loose wheel bearings. try and trace the shake. front right-left/steering wheel/back right -left.checks to do are, jack car up and hold the top and bottom of the wheel and shake it/there should be no movement/hold the sides of the wheel and shake it/there should be no movement ( on all wheels ) grab engine and shake it while looking at both sides ( checking engine mounts ) shaking can be caused by a number of things even bad shockers. good luck

Why does the steering wheel shake real bad

Tire out of balance, tire has broken belt and has a bulge, or a flat spot on tire. You may also have a broken shock or strut.

Why does it shake whenever i let off the gas and shakes real bad when i apply my brakes

If when applying the brakes the steering wheel shakes then your front rotors are warped and at the least need resurfaced and most likely the brake pads replaced. But more likely the rotors are too thin which has allowed them to overheat and warp which causes the shaking. In this case new rotors and pads are in order. If when braking tou feel the shaking in the seat of your pants then most likely the rear brakes are the issue. Same problem as the front, warpage, but your rear brakes are most likely drums. Again, possible resurfacing and new shoes; but more likely new drums and brake shoes.

But I wonder? Did this vibrating just start all of a sudden or maybe after a near accident requiring you to brake very heavily and possibly overheat the brakes. Or my main concern, to keep this from happening again, after pulling some type of trailer that you intend on pulling again. Pulling a trailer without its own brakes puts a much heavier load on your trucks brakes and just repairing them won't keep it from happening again if you ARE pulling a trailer. Higher quality rotors/pads/drums/ and brake shoes can help but if the trailer is too heavy for the truck nothing but installing brakes on the trailer or a lighter trailer will stop you from warping them again.

Lastly, in general when you let off the gas and the whole vehicle shakes the driveshaft/u-joints are common causes. Same with the steering wheel if it shakes when letting off the gas, but only on a 4x4 or AWD vehicle. So check your driveshafts and u-joints and make sure they are tight. But unless you find something obvious there I would wait until you have the brakes sorted out and see if that doesn't stop all the shaking.

Good luck!

My 2002 Mitsubishi Montero will shake real bad at about 40mph/2000rpm's, once your over that speed it will stop. It does not do this when you first start driving and the engine is cold but once it warms up...

This sounds like a wheel balance problem. A local tyre depot will fix in minutes. Try this first before you pay for expensive suspension and steering fixes.

1998 ram shakes at low rpm's (1100-1700) at around 40 mph, but the wheel or steering doesnt shake, its the truck itself shaking. It's not as bad when i get up to 50mph. The check engine light

Start by checking the tie rod ends on both sides on the front wheels..With the truck jacked up and jack stands underneath the frame both left and right wheels should be suspended in mid air..The are two tie rod ends on each side of the vehicle, a inside and outside tie rod..Check for any excessive place on each one...
Also ckeck the balance on all four tire's... Inspect the wheels for any stress cracks that would cause them to not to balance correctly and make your vehicle shake...
Check the transmission mounts on the cross member, make sure the mount is secure to the Trans and cross member mount..Also check both u-joints on the drive shaft and any hanger bearings that may be underneath there..If it's a 4 wheel drive check both drive shaft's...Anyone of these option's could show those
symtom's you mentioned...Good luck and let me know how it works out..

1999 Ford Taurus, steering wheel shakes when driving due to front passanger side tire movement/problem. The tires have been rotated and still problem from that area. What could it be?

Usually a steering wheel shake is a bad tire. Any chance you have 2 bad tires on the car? Only a front tire will make the steering wheel shake.

Front end and steering wheel shakes

when slowing to make right turn is it more like a clicking noise, does it do it while turning or just when slowing down. If it is while you are turning it is most likely the right cv axle drive shaft popping. When at a stop with ac on does it shake if you put it in park and how do the rpms read in park or in drive. Did they change the trans mount also dont thank that is it just trying to get a better understanding so I can better assist you.

Car shakes.

If the vehicle is FWD then you may have a CV outter joint going out and/or possibly a wheel bearing failure. I would have this checked out by a professional shop AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It also could be causing the power steering alert to come on because it is detecting the vibration in the wheel arm for the steering. Good Luck, RAC
