2003 Jaguar Vanden Plas luggage compartment will not open with key, transmitter (transmitter works all other functions), remote release swithch located on dash or badge button in center of lid. Valet Mode message continues to display regardless of procedures followed from owners manual. Is there a way to disconnect the ground in the engine compartment to cause a reset (battery is located within the luggage compartment)? Last to respond merely read from the owners manual-I've done that. Tks!

2003 VDP luggage compartment wouldn't open via key, transmitter, remote switch on dash or badge button in middle of lid. Solution was to spray keyway with WD-40 & repeatedly incert key to free lock. Non-use of manual lock caused lock to seze. I was fearful of breaking key with too much pressure-needed pressure was reduced with lubricant use.

Solution was supplied by service personnel over telephone @ AC Imports, Palatine, IL 847-358-5750.

valet button is located on left of center on dash-not in glove box.

See prior posting for actual solution.

Hi
Look under the "U" in "Jaguar" on the chrome strip on the trunk. You'll find a key slot where you can insert your ignition key. You may have to remove the license tag frame (if you have one) to get the key into the slot
OR
There should be a little jaguar insignia in the middle of the trunk lid . If the doors are unlocked just push it in it is a push button latch.
OR
Look in the center of the little Jaguar badge on the trunk lid.
The key fits in a slot there, to open the trunk .

hope the solutions will work
regards

Marvin

THE LATCH IS JAMMED OR BROKEN (MAKES NO DIFFERENCE) U WILL NEED TO REMOVE THE REAR SEAT BACK AND CUSHION AND CRAWL THROUGH AND MANUALLY RELEASE THE LATCH, THERE IS NO OTHER WAY THAT I KNOW OF, AND THAT IS WITH 40 YEARS OF WRENCHING UNDER MY BELT.

2003 town car trunk wont open with remote or button on door, only key?

Luggage Compartment Lid
The luggage compartment lid module receives a voltage signal from the driver door module (DDM) when either the button on the driver door trim panel, the keyless entry keypad, or the transmitter is pressed (twice on the transmitter). Voltage is then supplied to the luggage compartment lid latch, opening it. Using the luggage compartment lid key operates the latch mechanically, resulting in manual-only operation of the lid. There are two switches in the latch. One is monitored by the luggage compartment lid module to sense if the latch is closed. The other switch in the latch is monitored by both modules (LCM and luggage compartment lid module) and is used for disabling the anti-theft system, which is contained within the LCM. The luggage compartment lid module powers the lid motor to move the lid to the full-open position when it senses the latch has been opened. Optical sensors within the lid motor are monitored by the module to determine when to turn off power and which circuits should be powered or grounded to the lid motor. When one of the buttons is depressed with the lid open, the DDM sends a signal to the luggage compartment lid module which powers and grounds the correct circuits to the lid motor and lowers the lid until the latch closes. The module senses the latch closing through the lid latch switch that is monitored. At this time, the module powers the closing motor, slowly pulling the lid to a fully closed position. Two switches within the closing motor are monitored by the module to determine when the closing motor is fully down or up. The module has a vehicle speed output (VSO) (circuit 679) signal that is used to shut down the system if there is a VSO of approximately 5 kph (3 mph) or more. For diagnostics, the module uses the ISO-9141 circuit 70 that is included in the DLC (data link connector). Whenever battery power is lost to the luggage compartment lid module, luggage compartment lid motor or the luggage compartment lid closing motor; the system must be initialized.

NOTE: The luggage compartment lid motor is equipped with an optical sensor that the module uses to determine if the lid is closing on foreign materials based on lid speed. If the module detects this occurring, power and ground will be reversed to the lid motor and the lid will open.
  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the luggage compartment lid using the four different methods (driver door trim panel button, transmitter button, keyless entry keypad and key) to duplicate the concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

Visual Inspection Chart Mechanical Electrical
  • Luggage compartment lid motor
  • Luggage compartment lid closing motor
  • Luggage compartment lid latch
  • Luggage compartment lid and hinges
  • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse(s):

    • 1 (30A)
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuse(s):
    • 30 (7.5A)
    • 14 (7.5A)
  • Circuitry

  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step. Verify the two grounds (G204, G401) are clean, tight and free from corrosion. Remove and clean to make sure.
  1. Monitoring the PIDS in the luggage compartment lid module can verify the DDM is sending the lid-open signal to the lid module. They can also be used to determine if the latch switches, the lid switches and the lid motor sensors are all providing the luggage compartment lid module with the correct and necessary information to operate the system. The VSO input can shut the system down if there is a signal indicating 5 kph (3 mph) or more.
  1. If the electrical lid operation is ok, but the key is ineffective, refer to Section 501-14 .
  1. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located under the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
    • If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
  1. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
    • CKT 914, CKT 915 or CKT 70 = ALL ECUs NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Section 418-00 .
    • NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for luggage compartment lid module, Go To Pinpoint Test A .
    • SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the luggage compartment lid module.
  1. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the luggage compartment lid module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. For lighting control module (LCM) concerns, refer to Section 419-10 for a complete DTC index.
  1. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart. Where is the alarm system on 2005 lincoln ls?

Anti-Theft - Perimeter The anti-theft perimeter protection feature is controlled by the front electronic module (FEM), the rear electronic module (REM), and the driver door module (DDM). The alarm can be armed using:
  • the LOCK button in the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter to the DDM, which sends a message through the standard corporate protocol (SCP) communications network to the FEM.
  • the driver or passenger door lock switch if the corresponding door is open when LOCK is actuated.
  • the key in the driver door lock cylinder.
  • the RKE keypad by pressing 7/8 and 9/0 simultaneously.
The FEM and REM then monitor all features, which activate the alarm in the event of an unauthorized entry.
The luggage compartment lid lock cylinder does not disarm the vehicle's perimeter alarm. The luggage compartment alarm can be temporarily inhibited through the luggage compartment lid disarm switch, located in the luggage compartment lock cylinder or by opening the lugguage compartment with the RKE transmitter or the RKE keypad. Once the luggage compartment lid closes, the perimeter alarm system immediately starts monitoring the luggage compartment. The perimeter alarm can only be disarmed:
  • by unlocking the vehicle using the RKE transmitter.
  • by unlocking the vehicle using the driver door lock cylinder switch.
  • by cycling to RUN a valid programmed key in the ignition switch.
  • by entering the correct vehicle unlock code on the RKE keypad.
Additionally, an ignition switch tamper circuit and a signal hardwire line from the FEM to the REM are monitored.
If any of the above features receive any activation once the alarm is armed, the alarm activates the visual and audible alerts. ......

Luggage compartment release button

I had a silimar problem an strange as it sounds replacing the rubber gasket around the top of the trunk fixed it. I had a leak and had to replace the gasket and also the remote wouldn't pop the truck. Jag dealer wanted to replace the entire trunk release mechanism (surprise, usual rip off) for several hundred dollars. I didn't do it and, good surprise, replacing the leaking gasket fixed the trunck release problem.
