SOURCE: ford galaxy 2002 manual. Stuck in a forward gear

their are three shafts and one of them is the fixing that holds the shaft to the gearbox and this one has most likely broke allowing the others to move but ?? not the selector shaft

SOURCE: 2000 ford explorer 5r55E stuck in second gear and all gear positions

It sounds like the linkages have let go. If this is the case, then drive it to a repairer straight away. If you turn the vehicle off you might not get it started again.

Intermittent no start 2005 pathfinder 4.0l

Not enough information. Intermittent can be gearstick position switch, loose or flat battery, immobiliser wiring, . Most likely an electrical problem.
Join an auto club and next time it fails to start get them over to tell you what's wrong.

I have a Tata Indica LE 2009 - I cannot get into 1st, 3rd and 5th gears but have no problem with 2nd, 4th and reverse? Please advise

This sounds like a gear linkage problem. Lift the cover around the gearstick. Check the ball joint on the gearstick. It should be a tight fit.
Is the gear stick loose in those problem gear positions or does it refuse to go into position for that gear?
Open the bonnet and check the connections at the engine end to make sure nothing is slack or loose. If you can Safely get under the car, check the connections at the gear stick end as well. If everything is tight the problem is probably inside the gearbox.

2001 Hyundai Tiburon will not go in reverse, but drives fine otherwise.

Hi There,

As demonstrated in the test drive of the vehicle, the Tiburons gearstick has a little groove just passed the crown. Starting in nuetral - lift groove up and put it into the reverse position (where gear 6 is normally) by doing this lift you take the gear box to a second level. to move out of reverse simply take the gearstick and return it to nuetral then into first gear, you are now able to drive forward.

Hope this helps,

Cheers Buckaroo,
Chris.

Here are the issues with my 2000 Subaru Legacy L with 5 speed manual transmission: 1. ABS light illuminates when transmission is put in reverse and remains illuminated until car is turned off. 2. Reverse...

These assorted problems usually come from the control modules, in this case the transmission control module (TCM)
First, reset al ECM' by removing the battery negative terminal for a minute or so then re-fit it. This reset should cure all your problems. If not I shall consult my TSB's after you post the results of the reset.

I can shift into any gear but only first is engaged.

One of the gearstick joints has disconnected - hopefully not actually inside the gearbox. Gearstick connects to gearbox via a few rods & joints or a pair of cables in sheaths. Check something visibly moves near the gearbox no matter what movement the gearstick makes.

Bushes missing from gear stick and transfer stick

If it's a later model (post 98), then I have an idea what's happened. On the rounded ball end of the gear stick that goes in the box, there is meant to be a plastic bush that is only a very loose fit on the end of the stick. If it has dropped while either removing or replacing the gearstick, and fallen into the area at the back of where the gearstick actuates the shift rail, then apart from having a very sloppy gearstick, you won't be able to move the shift rail backwards - which is what happens when you move the gearstick forward (1st,3rd,5th). This should be fixable from in the cab. Of course, if you have an earlier model, none of the above applies, as you have the gearstick moving only one of a choice of three shift rails with no bush in that area. The only thing that happens to those is the spring on the gearstick breaks (that can't be replaced on its own!)

Manual gearbox query

hi fro uk this is a common problem on many cars not just hyundai and ita most common cause of synchro mesh failure on2nd and 3rd gear is believe or not a bad driving habit! it goes like this when you set off in 1st then cange up 2nd gear whilst accellerating holding gearstick? in back position then change up 3rd gear still holding gearstick! in a forward position then? when up to 4th gear we let go of gearstick?? now just by holding g/stick whilst in 2nd and 3rd the slightest pressure also brings the synchro ring into play whilst gear already selected! so inevitably the synchro ring wears away to extent that they no longer work properly so the gearbox is none synchromesh on 2nd 3rd gears and on occasions? on 5 speed box 4th gear can become a victim ? hope you understand ? just quietly observe some peoples habits with manual boxes? as for repairs?cost? this is not a difficult job to replace all synchro rings but box has to be stripped and assesed ? the cost could escalate? but if you want quick turnround? a matter of hours? a recon box with warranty? is other option ? BUT would not advise risking a 2nd hand box probably worse or same as ? whichever choice you take you can check clutch at same time if milage is high? now some good advice! personally this is not a dire problem just a niggleproblem which if you take time in changing gears you can o/come gritty gear change save money for now till it is more affordable ? if you know any old timers truck drivers ? these are the guys who will show you how to drive /change gears none synchro mesh before it was ever invented ? hope this helps daughter but practice on gears and rid of the bad driving habit so many do not realise they have will make her a better experienced!driver
