New key for vt commodore but won't turn over. Has been without battery for 2 years. All lights come on dash key locks and opens doors. Key was purchased from Holden usuing I'd

I would totally suggest that battery be suspected and investigated. If car not run for 2 years, what steps have you taken to check battery charge/condition, and recharge it?
I would suggest is probably nothing wrong with key, if it turns ignition lock to 'on' position, and then to 'start' position, then..surely key is doing its job?
But it cannot do much more if battery is dodgy.
Almost no battery is going to be up for much after a 2 year sit..in fact a 3-6month sit is going to drain most of them, and it also may have sulfided up plates which mean it will also resist charging.
Jump starting from either another car or a good battery, with jumper leads you know are good performers(most cheap jumper leads become dodgy after being used a couple of times, the connections in them are too poor to hold under high load) should make the difference.

Starts and wont run

Add more info. You should check the fuel system if it has been sitting that long. Change gas replace fuel filter . Does it start and just die? or does it idle rough?

Won't Start Hot

Sounds like it could be a bad starter solenoid.

My 2001 Lincoln Continental has been sitting for over two years, It did start for about a minute but it wont start again. what can I do

BATTERY DEAD MORE LIKELY.CAR BEEN SITTING FOR 2 YEARS GAS IN FUEL TANK WEAK FULL OF WATER, YOU NEED TO REMOVE DRAIN OUT OLD FUEL IN THE FUEL TANK. YOU NEED ADD NEW FUEL IN FUEL TANK,CHANGE FUEL FILTER, IF CAR BEEN SITTING FOR TWO YEARS.I WOULD REMOVE SPARK PLUGS ONE AT A TIME REMOVE EACH SPARK PLUG SQUIRT FEW DROPS OF OIL INTO CYLINDER THEN REINSTALL SPARK PLUG, REASON I SAY TO DO THIS PROCEDURE IT HELP PISTON RINGS SEAL UP ENOUGH TO BUILD UP COMPRESSION SO YOU CAN START THE ENGINE WHERE IT BEEN SITTING TOO LONG.YOU NEED CHANGE ANTIFREEZE AND THERMOSTAT.REPLACE RADIATOR HOSES TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE,REPLACE AIR FILTER.

With the battery charged it will go dead sitting for 3 days. With the battery charged and the positive lead disconnected for 7 days the car will start fine when reconnected although there is some arcing...

theres a draw somewhere. these are sometimes hard to pinpoint.start by checking that all lights turn off, glovebox underhood light all lights, you will need a meter to meter the draw amps, then with key off doors closed look at the draw amount,.02 to.03 is allowable, start removing fuses and watch if amps drop, one fuse at atime, start with this to try and pin down a location of the draw.hope this helps.

If my 2005 jeep sits and i do not drive it everyday, it will not start the next day. Had the battery changed a year ago.

You can tell if the battery is weak while it is cranking. If that is the case then battery need to recharged. When a car is not running regularly, it doesn't have the charge from the alternator so it becomes weak. If there is no sign of weakness in cranking then the problem is not from the battery, but it is from lacking of two basic things: ignition and / or fuel. Need to find out what is the root cause. Good luck.

The car shuts off when i turn the headlights on, i have had the battery tested and it was fine and have also replaced the cables to the battery. also the speedodmoter also goes in and out.

Probably you will note cluster lighst oscilling when you turn on hazard lights too. Bad distributor cable from battery harness to fuse distributor. When you turn on lights the 12VDC supplied to computer or injectors fail and carn turned off
