New key for vt commodore but won't turn over. Has been without battery for 2 years. All lights come on dash key locks and opens doors. Key was purchased from Holden usuing I'd
I would totally suggest that battery be suspected and investigated. If car not run for 2 years, what steps have you taken to check battery charge/condition, and recharge it?
I would suggest is probably nothing wrong with key, if it turns ignition lock to 'on' position, and then to 'start' position, then..surely key is doing its job?
But it cannot do much more if battery is dodgy.
Almost no battery is going to be up for much after a 2 year sit..in fact a 3-6month sit is going to drain most of them, and it also may have sulfided up plates which mean it will also resist charging.
Jump starting from either another car or a good battery, with jumper leads you know are good performers(most cheap jumper leads become dodgy after being used a couple of times, the connections in them are too poor to hold under high load) should make the difference.
