The check engine light and VSC light came on in my 2005 highlander. 168,000 miles

Tightened gas cap and disconnected battery. Lights went out for about 5 miles and came back on. Did this twice. Took it to be scanned and got p0430 and p0420 codes. (It had been 6000 miles since my last oil change Got oil changed and had them check for loose hoses near air filter but they found none loose)

P0420 & P0430 You need new catalytic converter
The P0430 check engine light code, like P0420, means the catalyst system efficiency is below the required threshold. Simply put, this means your car is adding more pollution into the air than it's supposed to.

Have you scanned both the engine computer and the abs computer? Because it is an abs problem, likely a wheel speed sensor.

SOURCE: Check Engine Light, VSC and Traction Control Off Light, came on after oil and filter change

obviously they did disconnect a sensor while they were working on your vehicle.this will set a code in your vehicle's computer. They call this a soft code since there was not a failure but it just did not sense a signal. After reconnecting it clears the code after so many ignition cycles, meaning turning the key on and off so many times. The code is stored in the computer so it would be a good idea to take it to the dealer to check it out and make sure there are no other problems

SOURCE: VSC TRAC, TRAC OFF, and CHECK ENGINE lights

it was trigger by the unconnectedc sensor at the air box. go to an autozone or sinilar parts store. most have a code reader they can put on the car for free and give u a list of codes.

Why Did the Vsc and check engine light come on in 2005 toyota highlander?

The converters generally fail only after the truck has been running rich. I would not replace them until certain the engine is running properly. There is no harm to the car to drive with these converters. Was there any history of rich operation codes?

Vsc and motor light on

I had Advanced Auto check the code. While there were other potential causes, it was the Gas Cap! Replaced it and no problems since. The lights for VSC and Check Engine went off a few miles down the road

Check engine light & Slip indicator light on together why?

Both the Check Engine light and the Slip Indicator light on my 2009 Tacoma came on for no apparent reason. The truck has only 34,000 miles on it. After reading blogs on the internet by people having the same problem with their Tacoma, I tried the easiest potential fix first: just tighten the gas cap until it "clicks" and disconnect the positive cable from the battery for about 20 minutes. Bingo, that fixed the problem! Those simple actions saved me a trip to the Toyota dealer and who knows how much in charges by their service department.

99 lexus es 300 chk engine and trac lock lite on

I had check engine light and TRAC OFF. OBD-II MIL code was P1133 which is Air Fuel Ratio Sensor Response Malfunction and scanned by AutoZone. After disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes, the lights went off. I cleaned the gas cap and tightened it firmly. For the last 400 miles, the lights have not come back. When scanning using Snap-on one, no code was detected. I think gas cap was the reason for the lights.
