the starter is located in between the engine and the transmission on the underside/backside of the motor/transmission, it is not hidden, should be plain to see
You need a tune-up. I also own an Aurora. This is a great vehicle. Mine has 189,000 miles and all thats been done is spark plugs, alternator (which would explain the headlight dimming on yours, check if it's functioning) thermostat and harmonic balancer. Check dash fuses and relays. You can find fuse box diagrams in your owners manual. Maybe disconected, loose, or damaged connections. Id take it to the dealer and have the dash looked at.
