Oxygen sensor readings go to 0 at wide open throttle

My 2004 Monte Carlo 3.4 doesn't accelerate when in passing gear. Have scanned it and noticed O2 sensor readings both go near O mili volt when it is stumbling. No codes present. 100K mile car. have replaced fuel filter, checked fuel pressure, cleaned MAF, scanned TPS no avail. Any ideas?

I suspect your catalytic converters are the culprit. Once they become clogged, they will rob your engine of power and provide false readings to the O2 sensors.

I would also check the compression on all cylinders to ensure you do not have any valves burnt or not seating completely.

Finally, these aluminum engines are notorious for blowing head gaskets, although I am still leaning towards the catalytic converters. FYI - there should be O2 sensors pre and post cat, which should help with troubleshooting.

I hope this helps.

Vacuume Leaks can cause this problems. you have to do a through check of vacuum hoses and the EGR valve. Your best bet can be to have your vehicle scanned at an autozone store and get a code. The EGR has to be closed at idle, then as the engine warms up or is accelerated, the EGR opens. That is if your car does not have an electronic EGR . The electronic EGRs do not use vacuum to operate. They are controlled by the PCM (power train control Module).

Could be a short in the wiring for the O2 sensor.   I currently have the same issue only my car finally threw a code after two days of it acting up.  Code 106.  Changed the MAP sensor and it now throws 108, MAP sensor high voltage circuit.  Ah the joys of cold weather and broke down vehicles.  But I know that you wont always get a code with a short.  Let me know if you fixed the problem.

SOURCE: 1996 s10 2.2 engine starts but idles rough and will not rev up.

Hi! You must be frustrated by now! your code is marking that the O2 sensor is bad in bank 1. Did you replace the O2 sensor that is located  before the catalytic converter?  The S10 has an O2 sensor specially made for that cat. its about 30$ That would explain for your blackened spark plugs; your pc on the car is asking for more fuel. GOOD LUCK!!

How to change spark plugs in a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, V-6

The three plugs in the back are a bit tricky but 2,4,6 are all back there 6 is right by the O2 sensor you might have to feel around for them but you don't need a jack or any special tools just a ratchet, small extension 5/8 SP socket slide the metal sleeve forward and yank ******* the rubber plug wires after a while they will come loose 4 it about 3 inches to the left of 6 and 2 is back behind the coolant Reservoir

Hard start and engine hesitation at highway speed

The PO441 has to do with your HO2S 2 (Oxygen sensor). You need to check to make sure the wire is not off of the sensor and check the grounds to the Oxygen sensor. Could be a bad Oxygen Sensor. The other code has to do with your Evap system Purge solenoid circuit. Has to do with detecting an improper voltage level. Could be a shorted Purge solenoid.

Location oxygen sensor 2002 chevy monte carlo

I believe, depending on the engine...you have 3 O2 sensors in the exhaust stream. Do NOT go to the Chevy Dealer for repair...instead find a good local mechanic and save approx $150

04 Monte Carlo 3.4L won't pass emissions changed gas cap still no luck. Diagnostics that fail are 1.) catalyst 2.) evaporative system 3.)o2 sensor Thanks, Joe

If the code you have is p0420, then it sounds like you mayu have a bad catalytic converter. This will inturn cause the oqygen sensor codes, It may still be under warranty. The warranty is up to 125k miles.
