Well, I think you can rule out the AC/heater fan inside the car. That would make noise even just sitting in the driveway.

Many/most vehicles are designed to run the AC compressor not only when the AC is on but also when the defroster is on. This is to keep the AC compressor lubricated through the winter months also.

It should not be a belt problem as that belt is always turning anyway which should then rule out the pulley bearing at the AC compressor.

I do suspect your problem is a major internal failure of the AC compressor. This can be easily checked by a technician [or yourself if qualified]. Locate the electrical connector at or to the AC compressor. Two people: With the AC turned on, in park, increase the engine speed so you can here the noise. Disconnect the AC compressor electrical connector. If the noise stops instantly, the compressor has failed. A quite expensive repair. Have a reputable shop locate a re-manufactured compressor for you. That will help some on the cost.
Bestaluckto you!!

If disconnecting the compressor stops the noise, and you must wait to do the repair, then leave the compressor wire disconnected. Because if that failing compressor would lock up while you were driving, belts would probably be flying all over and you would be stranded. The water pump would stop and you would cook the engine if you kept driving. Lotsa $$$$ then!! Be safe and take good care of yourselves. T'care, M

2006 kia sportage 2.7 over heating problem

There you go you answered your own question, The KIA has two cooling fans usually and if not it runs with a/c on always and when the temp reaches a certain point the fan comes on again. That vehicle caries a high relay and a low relay located in the relay box under the hood owners manual should tell you which is what.

Why would my car have a flapping noise when I accerlate?

Check your tires. You may have a tire separating from the tread.

Swish noise when turning with fan on.

The AC condenser is not able to drain the condensate and it is trapped. Locate the condensate tube and clean it out.

Air condtioner and heat goes out

Hi,

The most likely would be a loose connector either of the wiring harness, relay base or fuse holder. Determining which is a matter of tracing the wiring from the A/C-heat fan/ blower to the switch to the fuse (in some instances, there would be a relay likewise). From the fuse it would go to the ACC terminal of the IGN switch but that would be the least likely (other accessories would also fail aside from the A/C and/or heater).

The most likely would be the connector of the wires going to the A/C selector switch and/or the wires going to the fan/blower.

In some remote instances, it could be the fan/blower itself specifically the brushes that contacts the commutator segments of the armature.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
