2000 excel drives ok but sometimes turns over but won;t start.. like theres no fuel t

Try some starting fluid, if it wants to run then you need to check the Inertia switch. The location of this switch is behind the passengers foot kickpanel.

There is a Reset button that you push and it will reconnect the fuelpump. Please rate my info. You can try the Reset without testing with starting fluid but the fluid verifies fuel starvation as the problem.

I've had this problem and it drove me crazy because I had just brought the car and it went ok for the drive home and then I went to start it again and it took ages to get it started. ( hated driving it).. I changed the oil and filter and it started first time every time.. But now have a new problem.. If I knew the problems these cars had I would never have brought one.. It makes a pretty lawn ornament though...

I would start with checking the fuel pressure with a gauge.

I would suspect the fuel pump is the problem, it may be sticking at times and this causes a no start. The pump is located inside the fuel tank and it is electric.

It could be the fuel pump. Sometimes you can hear them engage, but they are not pushing enough fuel pressure to run the car. This can be checked.

Have you checked for spark first? Sometimes a car won't start due to no spark. This condition is usually caused by: Security system, bad ignition module, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor. You check it by pulling a plug wire and putting a screwdriver in the wire to see if it arcs. If it is getting fire look for the fuel pressure release valve usually located on the fuel rail, looks like a tire valve stem. If it shoots out gas, and you hear the fuel pump prime, check the fuel pressure regulator. It could also be the timing. There are four things needed for a car to start: fuel, spark, timing, compression. As for your question, as far as I know there is one fuel pump, you have to drop the tank to fix it. by not turning over i`m guessing that you mean the engine won`t crank over,if you mean won`t start when the engine turns over then that is a different path of diagnosis.if you mean that it starts to turn crank over but stops almost immediately then this could be a weak battery,or bad starter with a bad spot in the starter,that`s why it will start sometimes and sometimes not as the starter hits and misses stopping on the bad spot.if you mean it cranks over fine but will not start then this could be a fuel pump going bad,a dirty throttle body,a bad crank of cam sensor,these usually set a code in the computer and sometimes turns on the check engine light sometimes not.you should have the computer checked for codes to see if there is any,or just a wiring problem for the ignition system

Ignition Coil, or Crankshaft sensor going bad. Change your spark plugs and wires then see what happens. Or could be your injectors are clogged. Try some pour in the tank Fuel Injector Cleaner like STP. Any little debris can mess them up.

the only method that work was pulling the fuel pump fuse,wait 1 minute, crank her with out your foot being on the gas for 15 sec. Put the fuse back in , and start her up normaly. 1 st attempt she started but cut off, redid the process over , got in started her up normally, but had my foot 1/4 way down on the acclerator. She started and feathered the gas til she was fully operational. Let her stay on for about 10 minutes then took her out for a good long spirited drive.
