It just started today. no problems this morning started it to go pick up children from school and had a loud knocking. It sounds like it is coming from the rear of the engine but not 100% certain. Could it be a rod or misfire? I did get codes for spark plugs from autozone when they put it on a solus ... but the didn't crank the car
Check oil level and pressure ---knocking is usually lower end problem //rod knock bad bearing -wrist pin -piston ring -sucked up valve -head gasket etc --will probably cause your misfire -pull plug and examine
Good day ive got a 318i 2005 bmw whem its cold theres no problem but whem warm at 2 3000 rpms there a knokkimg soumd in my motor and when i pit my foot down the sound disapears is there any advice
If you got misfire codes (P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, etc.) You need to fix the misfires. See my notes at link below.

SOURCE: #5 cylinder misfire
I have a corolla and had #4 cylinder misfire also diagnosed at autozone. After changing the spark plugs, problem persisted, along with the same error code, so they recommended changing the spark plug wires, and that is what fixed it. I would have changed the rotor cap too, but was low on dough. Glad that was not the problem.

you have to take the intake off to get to the back plugs

I'm assuming your mechanic changed the rod bearings also. There is also a thrust bearing which keeps the crankshaft from sliding back and forth as it spins. Also check your flywheel/flex-plate, depending on whether your vehicle is auto or stick. Sometimes they crack and can cause a knocking sound.
