Peugeot 206 temp gauge issue

Temp gauge flies into red after 20-30 mins driving, no warning fan kicks in after 30 seconds or so goes right back down to 0. This can happen over and over on any journey. Changed the sensor, no chance, took thermostat out again no chance!!! Head seems ok no change in oil. I'm losing the will to live with it now as I darn't go on a long journey.

Make sure the coolant level is correct. If it is, could be a bad water pump or a clogged radiator. Check the radiator to see if it looks like the inside has a lot of scale and deposits. Remove some coolant if necessary. If the radiator looks relatively clean , could be a bad pump.

SOURCE: Random Overheating Problem on Peugeot 206

It sounds like your thermostat has gone bad and sticking close, Replace the Thermostat and Antifreeze. When replacing the thermostat, buy a fail safe thermostat so you will not have a overheating problem when the thermostat fails. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

Peugeot 406 coolant temp warning light

1. Check the coolant level if you have not already.

2. The most likely cause is a stuck thermostat so that when the engine is getting up to operating temp the thermostat is not opening at all - or enough - for the coolant to flow freely between the radiator and the engine to cool the heated fluid. If you check the radiator after driving and find it is cold it is a sure sign that the heated coolant that is circulating through the engine at operating temp and higher is not getting to the radiator. The first thing I would do is to change the thermostat and re-check. At the same time completely flush the coolant and replace it with new fluid of the correct spec.

The radiator fans are not going to operate when the fluid in the radiator is cold because the hot fluid cannot flow through from the engine. The fans have a temperature sensor switch.

3. If that does not solve the problem I would suspect the water pump has corroded and needs to be replaced. However from the symptoms you have described I believe a new thermo will fix the problem.

4. Don't drive the car when it is overheating. This is a certain way to blow the head gasket and potentially crack or warp the cylinder head. (In a worst case you can crack the engine block.) It will be nice and expensive to repair if you blow a head gasket or damage the cylinder head.

My peugeot 206 temp gage gos into the red and warning light comes on

they either did not put new fans on or they did not connect them correclty its all in the fans the fans cool the water for the engine when it cycles through the engine it cools off there at the radiator and it takes longer to heat up cause allways in any car when you turn on the ac it will turn high or secondary speed on fan so it cools the water even more so check fan if they replaced it motor might be bad or again check connections
