Code P0118 for my hyundai elantra 2008, is it good to remove the thermostat, especially during HOT season here in saudi arabia?

most hot temperatures will require a viscosity of 30w-50
that viscosity will cover temperatures down to around 15 degrees c

Are you able to remove the knob safely? It sounds like the knob might be stripped but still hanging on. If you are able to get the knob off then you should be able to manually adjust the control using pliers or something to see if the knob itself is the problem or not.

The thermostat "seals" the cool coolant giving up (rejecting) heat in the radiator & heater core from the hot coolant absorbing heat in the running engine "block".

When the coolant in the engine reaches a specific temperature (180 ~ 195 degrees) as determined by the value selected by manufacturer or when replaced, it opens and allows the hot coolant in the engine block to be pumped out to the radiatot & heater core for cooling and the cool coolant in the radiator / heater core is pumped into the engine block - replacing the hot coolant. The thermostat senses cool coolant in the engine block and seals shut until the temperature of the coolant in the engine block rises to 180 ~ 195 degrees again. This process continues over and over for as long as needed.

You should check to make sure that the coolant level in the reservoir / radiator is sufficient by checking when cold. Do NOT remove a radiator cap when it is hot! With the cap off, start the engine and add additional coolant as the engine warms up to normal operating temperature. If coolant levels are ok, the trouble could be related to the thermostat or possibly a faulty temperature sending switch. This means that the temperature of the coolant is fine - but the switch or sensor that converts the temperature to a voltage for the gauge on yur dashboard is the problem.

If the temperature is fluctuating up and down, you should have it fixed. Good luck!

Thermostats is located in the upper radiator hose coming off the engine. This requires a radiator flush too.

check radiator is not blocked

If the replacement thermostat is good, and installed properly, then the temp sensor might be bad. I hate to tell you ($$$$$) but waterpump could be bad (more expensive)

I shipped my 2006 Yukon Denali from USA to Saudi Arabia. When I to purchase the Middle East map DVD for the navigation system. GM Navigation answered me that they do not have the middle east DVD and I should contact the European branch. The dealer in Saudi Arabia is asking for $1200 for the disc and I know it is worth no more than $400. Could you please direct me to someone who sells the 06 Denali navigation map DVD? Thanks..

Sounds like the waters not flowing correctly could be thermostat or other blockage.Are radiator fans working when vehicle is at operating temperature?Generaly this is a thermostat fault or faulty temperature sensor.

why don't you take out the thermostat,you are in a hot country.Also bleed the the radiator or if you have a bleed screw on top of one of your hose pipes,i think you have an air blockage.

my 2002 elantra gls sedan started blowing hot air and overheating and it turned out when i took it to the hyundai dealer it was my thermostat they replaced it and i was good to go.it happened at about 40,000 miles hope it works out for you
