Be safe: Check the level of your brake fluid first. It may well be that you have low brake fluid.
If your brake fluid level is okay suspect the switch activated by the parking brake. And also be aware, that it can take a few seconds for that brake light to extinguish after start up..
sounds like u have a bad brake light socket or the parking light filament in one of ur bulbs has blown and is now touching the brake light filament causing it ti cross power
Park brake lights normally operate by a small plunger type switch the turns off when the level or pedal is placed in the off position. Over time the spring in the lever weakens and placing the lever in the off position no longer depresses the switch. The switch can sometimes be adjusted to make better contact, or the switch bracket can be bent so the lever and switch make proper contact.
2005 hyundai sonata replaced all calipers and rotors and pads and customer came back same day with complaint of car slowing down without applying brakes, when test drove found all brakes to get hot and also to be locked up until cooled off.and when i cracked open a bleeder the brakes released and no fluid came out, i dont understand why!!!
Parking Brake Console Light Stays On
The light is on because the brake fluid is low. The sensor in the brake fluid reservoir is signaling low fluid. This may be because leaking or the brake pads/shoes are worn down, so check to see if they needs replacement. In the mean time you can add brake fluid.
The Parking brake switch is activated by the brake handle. If you use a flashlight you may be able to see it next to the handle.
There's a small rubber pad which sits on the brake pedal arm, and holds the brake light switch OFF when the pedal is released. When this rubber pad falls off, the brake light switch is on all the time, not just when the pedal is pressed down. Find the rubber pad, and glue it back on, or make a replacement from cardboard, duct tape, whatever.
