I have a 1991 Geo Tracker with an auto transmission. It is slow to shift into reverse. How can I adjust the bands?

Question edited for clarity.

Try changing the auto transmission fluid, or at least topping it up. The demands of plowing snow are pretty ******* transmissions. Fully changing the fluid comes with its own problems. The best way is to drain the fluid, carefully measure and replace it with the same amount plus a couple of measured tablespoons extra.

Holden viva 2006 transmission problem

The only way to diagnose is electronically by asking an auto electrician to scan it with a pro grade scan tool computer. They can also record what is happening on a drive! It sounds a mess for sure, mechanical and electrical and the computer can diagnose both.

No reverse

Automatic or manual? If it's auto, take it to a transmission shop, because you are out of your depth.

yes this is a auto transmission problem. it is called slipping. you need new transmission bands. it is really hard to give service to automatic transmission since they are consisted of lots of parts and they are the most complex part in a modern car.

but before deciding on a new transmission or a major overhaul (check at fluid color there should not be any debris or particle when you drip it to a tissue and i should not smeel and color should be clear), check electronics and selenoid valves i which control transmision. sometimes selenoids are gone broken and they cant redirect oil oressure to required parts of system. but o not drive like this. if it is just a selenoid problem it can burn transmission bands due to slipping occur inside.

auto transmissions work with almost zero tolerances so be careful.

I have a honda cr-v automatic gear box it drives but it can't go reverse when you put the reverse gear. what is the problem?

Has the Transmission fluid been changed every 30,000 with Honda ATF-Z1?

If some one has put in GM Dexron III in it instead, the transmission may not shift properly and it can damage the transmission over time.

Also if some Express/Quick Lub place has flushed your Honda Transmission Dexron III or any type of Flushing agents, it's probally going to have to be replaced. Google "flushing Honda transmission" or MSN under "Express lub Transmission flush Fraud". Those back flow flushers systems damage the internal valves of many modern transmissions, both import and domestic and have NEVER been recommended.

Suggest taking it by a Honda Dealership or a aftermarket Honda/Acura ASE Certified Shop.

You could try the reverse fix here:
Reverse fix for Saturn TAAT
Or if it turns out your valve body is bad, here is how to swap it:
Replacing the valve body of a Saturn TAAT Transaxle

DO NOT believe bad auto mechanics that tell you they need to swap your transmission!
