I have had intermittent problems with the transmission for some time. I would slip when shifting from lst to 2nd gear. Last week I took it to the dealership where I bought it and they told me I needed a new transmission. I had it replaced. It cost me $2900+. My car had 55,866 miles on it . I am a senior citizen and don't drive recklessly. Why should this happen? I have checked the recalls on the 2004 Impalas and didn't find any transmission problems. No wonder GM went backrupt. Nobody wants their cars. I would appreciate any input. Thanks
Have you gotten the services done to it on a regular basis? was the transmisson leaking fluid causing the transmission to slip? also if a vehicle is driven too soft for a long period of time the clutches in the transmission wear out faster because the pressure from shift to shift is lower causing more slippage between the friction material. all of this has to be taken into consideration. as for GM going bankrupt... that has very little, if anything to do with the vehicles that they were building, it has to do with how they spent the income and how recklessly the ceo's and unions handled finances and employee pay. when they kept paying retired employees full wages even though they aren't producing anymore it just keeps adding up to the payout amount, if anything i would put most of the blame on the unions and financial handling of the company money
