you have to remove the compressor, the pulley bracket will bolt to where the compressor was, it should line up with the threads from the original bolts.
Most likely you have a seized AC compressor. When you ask for AC or heat the AC clutch engages with the pulley wheel that normally spins freely when the AC is off. As the pulley wheel is no longer able to turn because of the seized compressor the belt will either slip or snap.
The Belt Diagram should be on the underside of your hood, however they have a way of disappearing.

remove the serpentine belt. spin all the pulleys on the system and make sure none are seizing. check for any play in the pulley bearings. if you have a stethescope, with the belt on and the car running, put the probe on all the components and listen for any abnormalities.
that would be a good suggestion. the guy probably do not know what he is talking about.
on another thought, from where you buy them, dont they have a way to test what you are buying if it is good or bad?
original problem : no power going to the compressor.
solution: test first if there is refrigerant. there is a pressure switch in the system that would prevent the compressor form engaging. there is a fuse that would break in case you have a faulty coil. there is an ac relay that could break anytime. and so many more......
the last thing to replace is the climate control....
yes you can. my dad did it on his lasaber
