Bought in 05 - after a couple of years noticed that there seemed to be a 'slow' leak near driver side front tires.. We constantly replace oil (@ 3 months) Today a major oil presence is on the garage floor and car seems to be having a little trouble uphill. Shops want $100 off the bat just to even look at the car... help?
Dont do the $100.00 diagnosis fee. Problems like this occur. The engine has rear main and front main seals. The drivers side has a rear main seal. this is where the camshaft comes out of the engine and goes into the automatic transmission or the clutch. The rear main seal is a little circular rubber seal with a spring inside it. A leak this size could mean a couple of things. The spring has broken, or the engine is revolving out of balance. It could also mean the transmission is revolving out of balance. Something like the torque convertor could be off. Anything which would wag this main transmission of energy will be the problem. There is a hole between the engine and the transmission for the oil to leak out if the seal is bad. This is probably where you oil is leaking from. Check whether it is transmission oil or engine oil by the smell. Engine oil smells more sulphurous. Firestone replaced my rear main seal for a good price but I had a problem shortly thereafter for putting the wrong sort of oil in my automatic transmission. I'd go to firestone if you have this problem of leakage from this area. Also could be the problem that the oil is leaking from where the transmission is connecting to the drivers side axle. This could be a seal or a maladjustment of the transmission or something more serious. If you cant tell where it is leaking from then pay the $100.00 fee or if it is an older car, find an independent mechanic and build a relationship with this. Sometimes there's diagnosis discount here.
First I'd find a different shop. $100 to look at it? I don't think so. Sounds like this may be a transmission issue.

who does the oil changes on the car?
what size engine? There is a service bulletin on the V6 for a rear main seal problem....it also says to check or replace the PCV (positive crankcase ventalation) valve and inspect the system before replacing the seal. Hope this helps...
