My 97 nissan sentra recently shut off while driving and after some trouble shooting as well as some trial n error work I found it out to be the distributor. Replaced the old and it fired right up again. Well after driving it around the block I noticed it wasn't shifting properly, going into 2nd gear the car jerked really hard and my problem progressively got worse. It began to over rev and sometimes just don't won't to shift at all until I let out on the gas some and then itd go into gear. All other gears are smooth as can be but 2nd gear. Also there is an immense amount coming off the engine, it has plenty of coolant, oil, transmission fluid, and ran perfectly fine prior to the distributor going bad in it. At first I thought maybe its where it sat idle for a week until I got it fixed but that's not it. I double checked the timing of the distributor crank and it too is just fine, the engine has no sputter to it or any kind of shimmy, just seems to have lost some power and again is getting really hot really quick but all temperature gauges are reading normal and its having trouble shifting into 2nd gear. Its never had any problems shifting, has plenty of fluid in it, only thing I've notcied is my tranny fluid seems a little thing and has the viscosity more of thivk water rather than that of an oil or your typical transmission fluid. Anyone have any clue or suggestions as to what it could be or anything I could try or check that could get it running back to normal and why itd be shifting rough only into 2nd gear and why the motor is getting so hot without the car temp gauges reading its hot or anything warmer than what it typically sits at when the car is warmed up?

SOURCE: Automatic Transmission shifts late and rough after warm

If it has over 60000 miles it may need a transmission service, which includes a filter and fluid change, fluid may look fine but if filter is clogged and not picking up fluid fast enough when u give it gas the pump spins faster and forces fluid thru to shift, more fluid is needed to shift into higher gear.than to drive

do not flush the trans, that will make it worse.
My friend you have no second gear, you need trans rebuilt.
If you flush it now you can cause more damage.

I recently tried the DIY service and repair manuals from a website and it actually helped me repair transmission problem in my jcb 3cx site-master. It would'nt move forward or reverse, engine was good both solenoids for forward and reverse worked, but still couldn't diagnose the problem.
