SOURCE: steering is stiff

the problem could be contamination in ps fluid.i would flush the system and replace fluid first .if that does not solve the pronlem you most likely need power steering pump. the steerjng box is very unlikely.

SOURCE: power steeing fluid leaks

try replacing the o ring or use double o rings between the reservoir and pump, pressure builds from use and the fluid blows out of this o ring even after the vehicle is off. When the dealer replaces the pump they re-use the reservoir and o ring so the problem does not get fixed. The fluid runs down the pump and the lines to the rack, instead of washing the engine and observing where the fluid is leaking from, they replace good parts until they find the problem. Sometimes one o ring isn't enough.

SOURCE: 2001 chey cavalier is leaking

You will need to clean under the car and then run car and turn wheel a few times then shut it down and try to find the leak, its got to be a hose or the metal return line is rotted and leaking, in some cases it may also be the power steering pump that leaks, after cleaning the old oil you will be able to pinpoint the leak better.

Sounds like the high pressure power steering hose is leaking. Check it out and if so replace it along with the low pressure return line. If the lines are not leaking then the power steering pump could be the problem.

Power steering fluid leak in 99 Toyota Corolla

look for split in the hard line where fluid is leaking. If you see split, change the line only. make sure power steering reservoir is filled and rack and pinion is full (charge with steering wheel left/right motion). You should be able to remove wheel and inside wheel panel to see power steering fluid shooting out of any hole. There is hydraulic pressure on the lines.

Leaking power steering fulid

Most common cause is a bad power steering line. Clean off the power steering pump and refill it with fluid. Then, while the car is running, have someone turn the wheel from side to side while you observe the power steering unit. If you're unable to see fluid leaking from the fittings on the lines, the leak will likely be due to a kink in the line further down.

The steering is hard to move and the steering warning light is on. Please let me know what to do I need to urgently resolve it.

The servo unit on the steering has failed . Look inside the engine bay for oil leaks - if none are present then the entire steering rack will have to be replaced - the internal seals have failed.

Steering hard to turn to the left like power steering is out but turns ok to the right. Checked power steering fluid. It is OK

bad steering problems,,your steering rack most likely, but, have you recently been stuck in ditch? when wheels are straight, look at front of car when parked. do wheels look funny? one going one way, and the other going the other? may be alignment. is it leaking any fluid on either side of the front of the car? drivers side? passenger side? if it's not out of alignment,,,wheels out of alignment,,the steering rack is the problem. it may be faulty. if not leaking fluid,it may still be bad. first i would make a visual test look under the vehicle while someone turned the steering wheel to right and left while car is in park, emergency brake on!! look at the steering arms while they turn the steering wheel from right to left. no fluid leaks? any resistance in turning the wheel? any leaks,if so,go to leak and repair with steering line replacement.no leaks? suspect a bad steering rack. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com i love to volunteer

I have a 2003 Ford Escape that is leaking power steering fluid. I replaced the power steering pump and hoses but it is still leaking. It only leaks when the Escape is turned off.

It might be the rack and pinion kit (seals)

I had this problem 2 months ago... replaced the powersteering pump 3 times until I convinced the mechanics to look at the rack and pinion. there they found the leak, especially when I turned the wheel.. They first kept telling me there was air in the lines and it would go away. but that never happened.

No power steering, it stays real hard to turn the steering wheel

Check to see if your leaking any power steering fluid. If theres no fluid leak from your car then the problem is the power steering pump needs to be replaced. The job is not too hard, If you need some tips to replacing the pump just write me back.

Do you have the famous power steering fluid leaking and not sure where its going too? I had to replace my power steering lines as it was leaking fluid like a siv slowly at first. It was the rubber on the power steering lines leaking.
