2010 Nissan Sentra 2.0L When pumping gas the pump clicks off but my gauge does not display full. I have to sit there and fill it slowly and listen to not overflow until the gauge reaches full. I am not quite sure which part to use the car has not been properly diagnosed because my father doesn't have a garage anymore. He says it's one thing and one of the techs at my jobs says it's another. What is this problem more commonly related to?
Check for a bad ground connection at the fuel tank. This is the most common problem associated with fuel gauges. If all the wires are in good shape at the tank, sometimes it is a good idea to run a ground wire from tank ground to frame. Other than that the fuel gauge is may need replacement.
Testimonial: "We don't believe that the fuel gauge is the issue. It displays full when the tank is full. The issue is getting the tank to fill up without the pump clicking off. It's a 14.5gal tank and when I get to about 12-13gal the pump clicks off. So the gauge is properly reading how much fuel is in the tank because it's NOT full it isn't reading full. So after the pump clicks off at 12gal I have to sit there and fill the rest slowly."

First from the fuel tank in side the fuel tank there is filter remove the screws on the top where the fuel gauge fitted when you remove gauge you can see fillter that is one sometimes blocked.
Next if you check fuel filter it is ok, but nissan sunny has fuel filter inside the caburator where fitted fuel pipe from the fillter clean that filler.
ather thiing is check your connections any leak or loose.

it will be your float in your tank, you have to drop the tank and replace the float.

I also have a 04 with a 1.8L. same problem. I took the fuel regulator off. It is a black box behind the rear tire under car. It only has 2 bolts to take off. After that there is a couple of vent hoses from the tank going to this box. Unplug them and 1 electrical connection. The electrical connection and one vent is connected to a T connection on the box that you can unplug by twisting on the T. Take that T off and look inside where you unplugged the hose on this T. There is a spring and a little plunger inside this tube. The plunger gets stuck. I took a little screw driver and some PB blaster and worked that plunger back and forth a couple dozen times and it unfroze. Put it back together gassed up just fine. I did not look but I was told regulator can be replaced for 200$. But a can of blaster is cheaper.

Ok, so it is possible that the vent line is plugged or kinked and causing an air lock. Quite a few vehicles have a problem when filling the tank. nost often shaking the car will release the trapped air. Also on some models if you turn the filling nozzle upside down when filling it will vent better.
Ther is a check valve in the vent tube that can be stuck as well. If that is what you have been told, that would be a correct diagnosis of your problem. However some models are just touchy when fillig the tank.
