Why do my 2002 BMW 530i door locks inconsistently lock or unlock (or slowly lock or not lock one door )the front and/or rear doors with the key signal or manual use of the key in the driver-side front door but work with the interior lock button?

thei are screws in the door hidden by caps that you need to take off the door and near the mirror shoud pop off

You need to have someone or yoursef check the body control module with a compatible scan tool. Thats where the problem you are having resides. It may need a software update or replacement. You can also disconnect the battery for a few minutes, that will cause the BCM to reset and may fix it.
SOURCE: 2002 BMW 325 - key locked in trunk
There are several suggestions out there on how to retrieve BMW keys from the trunk. Many of the ways I tried failed, and it takes 2 to 3 days to get a new key made up. In the coupe there is the center piece in the back seat that folds down. Then on the back wall there is material that will fold down that is held up with Velcro. Behind that you will find a rubber insulation that is mostly cut and looks like a door, but not all the way. Carefully cut the rubber to remove the piece. Now you will find a metal wall, but there is a large piece that is tack welded on. I got turned around and kicked it with the bottom of my foot and got 3 sides loose. Then a softball bat knocked the final side loose. Pull that out and trash it, the final barrier is the insulation that is held in place with plastic clips that can just be pushed down. After that you can a pretty large hole to work through and get the keys. Just put everything back in place other than the metal plate and you will never know anything was done.

I had the same problem on the rear door of my 1998 528i and it was the door actuator that had gone bad. I had to take the rear seat out to get the door panel off. Once I had the door panel off it was not that difficult to replace the door actuator.

right i had this ***** of a problem 2nd week in jan 2010. a bmw mechanic told to jack car up at front and hook a jumper pack up to live on starter motor terminal and then earth, was quite hard to put croc clip on to starter but did manage it. this was supposed to back charge to battery to get enough power to open car with remote, in theory it should of worked but i gave up after 3 hours-no power. so i got my key put it in drivers door and mechanically turned to open position, then i got a cutlery knife from kitchen and wrapped some insulation tape around tip up 2-3 inches. then i pushed this down glass directly above door handle key end to pry a gap between glass and rubber just enough to slide coat hanger wire in with small hook on end then i manouvered wire hook until i hooked latch arm which i did within 1 minute pulled coathanger wire up and pulled door handle the door opened much to my delight. this was a major sigh of relief after trying for 2 days to get in, and many hours searching the net for a solution which i couldnt find. THIS WORKS 100 percent WITH ABSOLUTELY NO DAMAGE!!!!!!! any questions email me- [email protected]
