Just push and then lift the clutch pedal toward you to adjust the cable. The mechanism is above the clutch pedal and is selfadjusting as liong as you lift the pedal. If that don't work then the adjust mechanism is junk.

The clutch is not fully disengaging. Adjust the clutch cable to obtain a 1/2 inch of free play at the top of pedal stroke. If clutch adjustment is not correct, damage to synchronizers or clutch release bearing will occur. Your clutch should begin to engage about an inch off the floor when releasing the clutch pedal.
loose or mis adjusted shifter cable to your transmission. usually, they break. stretched shifter cable? possible. manual transmission? did not specify. automatic? suggest cable problem,loose cable at some point,look with 2 people to see where the cables jumping during the shifting process. manual? suugest a bad or going bad slave cylinder on the side of the transmission,or low fluid to the clutch master cylinder.is the clutch pedal weak? or just goes to floor and will not come back up? this is sign of leaking clutch master cylinder,bad clutch master cylinder. or both. see brake fluid on ground under the car after you pump the clutch several times? either a bad clutch master cylinder,on the firewall,drivers side,just under the windsheild,or a bad slave cylinder on the side on the transmission under the car on the transmission. suggest that you look for fluid leakage. follow the trail of fluid to the source.
The one item I would suspect is the through-out-bearing not completely
disengaging the pressure plate from the fly wheel. If the vehicle is in neutral
and you slowly depress the clutch and release it do hear a singing or whining
sound? Since you cannot adjust the clutch any more the through-out-bearing is
the component which moves the pressure plate from the fly wheel to stop the
power from the engine to the transmission. It is difficult to shift when the
engine is on because the fly wheel is still engaged and powering your transmission.
I assume it is a cable operated clutch. If so the adjustment is tightened so that there is about 1/2 to 1" of pedal travel to clutch operation, provided the gears can be selected smoothly.
It may be the transmission input shaft bushing or bearing, located in the rear of the engine crankshaft, in front of the clutch assembly. If the bushing or bearing is dry (needs to be greased), the input shaft will still try to turn with the engine rpm, even though the clutch pedal is depressed. Also, the clutch disc may not be fully releasing, which could possibly be corrected by adjusting the clutch pedal linkage. good luck
Check and make sure you have fluid in the clutch master cylinder. If it is low fill and check for leaks. Repair leaks as needed and bleed system. If fluid was full check adjustment and bleed system, if there is air in the system pedal will go to the floor.
start with the clutch fluid, is it full? check the clutch cable from the pedal to the transmission, does it have a lot of play in it, is it adjustable? check the bushings on the shifter base, does the shifter itself have a lot of play in it? i'd start with those, if all those are ok then it might be the clutch itself. when a clutch gets worn down it doesn't release fully causing a hard shift or grinding when going into gear. put the truck on a flat surface so it doesn't free roll at all, with the engine off, put the truck in first or reverse, press the clutch pedal fully to the floor and start the engine. let off the brake. if the truck moves at all it means your clutch cable is out of adjustment or its just getting worn out. provifing the shifter and the fluid level is good.
first i would try adjusting the clutch cable because commonly people with think that they're clutch is going out when really just the cable has gotten stretched....try adjusting that first and if that works then you should be fine for another couple thousand miles but if you want to not have to worry bout it for awhile i would just replace teh clutch assembly....usually ranges from $200 to $450 depending on the clutch set and the mechanic that does the work for you. Let me know what happens. :)
