Then, when I start driving, a loud warning sound emerges which fades only after half a minute or so. The light keeps burning. When I stop the car and start driving again, the sound comes back every time.
According to the manual the warning light is supposed to indicate only whether the roof is properly closed, not whether it's properly opened. So the manual is no help.
I know that when you lower the top, you have to hold the button up for several seconds after the top is completely lowered in order for the locks to engage. The top motor will still run and when it is finished, you will hear a "ding". to indicate it is fully down. The error will go away and your temp will show up again. I had to call the dealer to find this out.
Joris, I had the same problem when I first got my new 04. Dealer replaced the switch went bad where the convertable locks into the windshield area. Worked fine until I recently went to the car wash, and hand wiped down the car, and the canvas top area. BUT the sensor beeped again. After the car set for a few hours it stopped. I think something got a little to wet.. It hasn't done it again..and I have washed it 3 times. Also I re-apply a canvas waterproof protectant every other year, since my bug is garaged the roof is protected all season. I buy the water proof spray protetectant at Walmart used to waterproof tents & camping gear. Hope this helps, SuzieBug
Your roof isn't properly opening. If it senses the roof being up to a certain point the alarm will sound.Something could be blocking it or whatever but it's not right.

I have no idea what could be blocking the roof. As far asI can see, it's properly and fully opened ...
Thanks for the reply anyway.
