2003 Ford Windstar over drive light started flashing I turned off van restarted it light went off now won't go into any gears?

The Overdrive light flashing is an electronic issue rather than a mechanical one, unless a solenoid has failed. Thar can be checked by an auto electrician armed with a $5,000 bi-directional scan tool computer. They can instruct all the solenoids to work and verify that they did. There may also be readable DTC codes.

When you emptied the transmission, did you measure the fluid that came out of it and replace it with exactly the same amount?

It looks like whatever the electrical issue is, it is stopping you from driving.

I have a 2001 ford laser auto, the hold light started flashing, the previous owner said that he'd turn the car off start it again and the light would stay off

The flashing "Hold" light in a 2001 Ford Laser automatic transmission indicates a potential issue with the transmission. It's a warning sign that there may be a problem that needs attention. Here are some possible reasons for the flashing "Hold" light and steps to take:
  1. Transmission Overheating: The flashing "Hold" light can be triggered by the transmission overheating. This can happen if you've been driving in heavy traffic or in hot weather. If this is the case, you can try the following steps:
    • Pull over to a safe location.
    • Shift the transmission to "P" (Park).
    • Allow the engine to idle for a few minutes to cool down the transmission.
    • Turn off the engine and wait for a moment.
    • Start the engine again and see if the "Hold" light remains off. If it does, it was likely caused by overheating.
  2. Transmission Fault: If the "Hold" light continues to flash even after restarting the engine, there may be a more serious issue with the transmission. In this case, it's advisable to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic or a transmission specialist. They can diagnose the problem and recommend the necessary repairs.
  3. Transmission Fluid Level: Check the transmission fluid level as low fluid levels can sometimes trigger warning lights. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for instructions on how to check the transmission fluid level. If it's low, top it up with the recommended transmission fluid.
  4. Transmission Sensor or Solenoid: The flashing "Hold" light can also be related to sensors or solenoids in the transmission that may be malfunctioning. A diagnostic scan of the vehicle's computer system can identify any error codes related to the transmission, helping pinpoint the issue.
It's important not to ignore a flashing "Hold" light, as transmission problems can worsen if not addressed promptly. Continuing to drive with a malfunctioning transmission can lead to further damage and potentially costly repairs. Therefore, it's recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to determine the cause of the issue and take appropriate action.

04 ford exp O/D strts flash 1st gr dgs lil took2have fluid exchg&new filter told metal shavs in pan&need new trani $1500 Told no use putting back 2gther cuz undriveable. Help pls any advice?

My advice is to type out what your issue is - this is not a texting app and we need to understand the details of your issue. As best I can figure out, you are having problems with your transmission, took it to have the fluid changed, and someone (mechanic?) told you that because of the metal shavings in the old fluid (plus the warning light flashing) they recommended transmission rebuild/replacement. That's good advice. Your transmission may be rebuildable now, and may only require a few parts. Keep driving it until it quits altogether and it's going to cost a lot more.

Change transmission oil

Hi Peter, If your Camry has an automatic transmission, for normal driving the auto fluid should be changed every 40,000km, there should be a drain plug on the transmission pan that takes a 10mm hex drive or 17mm socket to undo. You have two choices after driving the car onto ramps or jacking up and supporting on jack stands so you can safely get under the car. 1 - You can loosen and remove the transmission drain plug to let the auto fluid drain out into a container (careful not to lose the sealing washer) refit and tighten the drain plug and washer again. Remove the auto transmission fluid level dip stick, using a suitable funnel pour about 2.5 litres of suitable new auto trans fluid back into the transmission via the dipstick tube (I believe they take dexron 2 of 3 type fluid). Start the car and move it onto a level surface. With the engine running, handbrake on and brake pedal applied, shift the transmission from park through every gear selection slowly into 1st gear, then back to park. Leave engine running. Wipe the dip stick & insert it back into the dip stick tube fully, remove and check where the fluid level mark is on the end of the dipstick. If the fluid level indicates low or does not show at all, add 100ml of additional fluid and recheck the level till the fluid reaches the full mark on the dipstick. 2 - The second option is everything in the first option but includes replacement of the transmission filter and pan gasket. I would only do this if the car had travelled high km or the pan gasket was leaking. At the point where you've drained the old fluid into a container and refitted the drain plug and washer, remove all the transmission pan bolts and the transmission pan. If you have the time to let the fluid drain overnight prior to removing the pan it's a good idea because once the pan is removed, fluid will continue to drip from the transmission. You'll need to remove the old pan gasket, some may be stuck to the pan and or transmission, a razor blade type gasket scraper can be good for this but be careful not to scratch either surface when cleaning off the old gasket. Remove the bolts/nuts that hold the transmission filter onto the bottom of the transmission. Careful caus more fluid may drain out of the transmission or filter once removed. Fit the new filter and filter tube gasket & bolts/nuts, careful not to over tighten. Fit new pan gasket, pan and bolts. Continue with fluid filling procedure from option 1. I would suggest you only use option one and remember to double check the drain plug is tight. Also, remember to dispose of the old fluid correctly. Cheers

I have Toyota Camry 2002 V6 automatic transmission it is shifting very rough I think from 2 to 3 gear at about 30/40 km/h and when slowing down to about 30 km/h AT gives ****

The first thing I suggest to do is change the transmission fluid. This will require you to remove the transmission pan. To Do this: a. purchase transmission fluid, transmission pan gasket, and transmission filter). You may also want to purchase some gasket sealant, but his is not necessary - however it will help hold the gasket to the pan when installing the pan. Put a light beat all the way around the pan, then using your finger spread it the width of the pan (where bolt holes are) and let dry for about 5 minutes before putting new gasket on. Once the gasket is on, let it sit for about 10 minutes so it will stick and stay in place while putting the pan back into position (remember to install new filter before putting pan on).
1. Loosen the front bolts then the side bolts on either side (only one side) then, start removing the bolts on the other side, and the rear one by one until the pan becomes loose enough to lightly pry down. Once this is accomplished, you will drain the fluid into a drop pan (will hold the fluid). Once the majority of the fluid has been drained, slowly remove the rest of the bolts while holding the pan up (can use a small jack) - then lower pan holding it level. Drain remaining contents into the drop pan. (leave pan under transmission while doing this as to allow excess fluid from transmission itself to drain; won't be a lot, but will be some). While the transmission is draining, remove the transmission filter. After you have removed the filter, install the new filter. If you have already put the gasket on the transmission pan, you are ready to install it. When insterting the bolts, put one in each corner of the transmission pan so that all corners are up and the pan is securely in place. This will allow you to install the rest of the bolts without holding the pan up and any side. Insert the other bolts every other hole, finger tight. Once you have these in place, snug each one. Then insert the rest of the bolts, and do the same. When you have snugged the last one, go to the one right next to it (or start with that one) and turn each one just less than a 1/4 turn (ever other one) and do the same for the rest). This will ensure each bolt is snug, and the pan gasket will seal. DO NOT overtighten the bolts as this will cause leaks. Once you have all the bolts snug, lower the vehicle and put the recommended amount of fluid in the transmission (auto parts dealer will tell you how much). Once this is accomplished, start the vehicle and let it idle until at operating temperature. Check fluid for fullness - add fluid if needed until transmission is full. DO NOT overfill the transmission fluid.

Can a transmission flush on a 2001 Hyundai XG300 be a DIY job? If so what step should be follow in doing so?

If your going to just do a transmission flush without replacing the filter, the cost is around $75.00 at most speed shop like jiffy lube. The cost for the transmission oil and filter replaced is around $100.00 and worth it's while and time. DIY, your going to have to raise the car to get under it and have a tray large and wide enough to hold up to 4 liters. Undo the the bolts that hold the transmission pan and let the transmission to leak out, once the transmission fluid stopped leaking out. Drop the pan and remove the filter from the transmission valve body. Replace the filter, clean the pan, and clean the transmission and pan contact point before replace the gasket and placing the pan back. bring the car back down and add 4 liters of transmission oil and idle the car running the transmission through the gears. check the fluid level and add if needed, go for a test drive and check the transmission fluid once again and add if needed. Good luck, keep me posted. Be glad to answer any more questions you may have.

00' Kia Sephia LS not shifting past 1st gear

first you need to buy transmission fluid new filter and new gasket.you need 11.4 pints of transmision fluid.raise front of vechicle.set parking brake.block both back wheels.besure support vechicle weight with jack stands. get a drain pan.if your transmission pan dont have a drain plug.loosen rear pan bolts a few turns.remove the front and side transmission pan bolts. let fluid drain.remove tranny pan. then clean old gasket material from transmission and pan carefully.dont scratch or damage surface.clean old tranny bolts using brake cleaner or buy new tranny bolts.you have to put a tiny film of rtv silicone on tranny bolts so they wont leak.carefully remove old tranny filter and put on new filter.clean all grease grim away from tranny pan it should be **** and span because.you might need a little gasket adhesive to hold gasket in place while putting pan back on transmission.to line up bolt holes.loosely put all bolts in you have to move pan a little to get holes line up.when all is finish put tranny fluid back in.besure you put 11.4 pints back in that about 6.5 quarts. make sure tranny fluid level is right before driving vechicle.l

Auto transmition wont go into 3rd and 4th gear

I had the same problem I changed the transmission fluid & put a new filter in the trans, this fixed it good until I put my foot down to overtake the trans kicked down to 2nd gear & the hold light started flashing again & the trans started slipping again. I stressed over it for a day or 2 & then I took it out for a drive & thrashed it, Low & behold it came right. When you change fluid its impossible to get all the old fluid out because the torque converter holds a liter or two under pressure, so when I put my foot down some of the gunk blew through & blocked the pump it looses pressure & cant change gear. You need to get it flushed by a transmission specialist

Auto trans problem

Transmission fluid is low. Drive the car 15 or 20 miles to heat up the transmission. Check the transmission fluid level with the car running in neutral with the parking brake engaged. Add transmission fluid to come to the full mark. Go slow when adding fluid. DO NOT OVER FILL!! This should fix your problem.
