did you check the fuel pressure? there is a sharder valve on the fuel rail to do this. i know you have to have a certain amount of pressure in order for it to run.i think on fuel injection its around 60 to 70 psi.and on throtle body is around 30 to50.psi. i also know if you run your truck low on fuel alot it will burn up the pump gas is what keeps pump cool. also you said you found a pluged filter witch over time will burn up the pump. hope this helps.

Chevy Trucks, Blazers, S10 pickup and the like will vapor lock ecspecially the 2000 models. Do not tighten the gas cap past 1 click. There is a tube that runs from the top of the tank down and this gets hot and collapses or burns in half. We just bought a reinforced rubber tube cut it to lengh and use it instead of part and it's worked grat for 2 years so far.

Try replacing the intank plug-in for the fuel pump. They have been known to go bad even though they look okay.

SOURCE: 2000 GMC 1500. where is the fuel pump relay. Also

Yes I do. There is a roll-over saftey switch on the vehicle. I don't know where it is,but it should tell you in your owners manual.

SOURCE: Engine runs extremely rough, seems to be fuel

Have you changed the plugs, if any are fouled out or if any are worn, it takes more to fire it under load and may be spark knocking because one of the plugs can't fire off all the gas and cause it to skip or idle rough.

1998 chev 1500 hard starting when cold but starts fine after warming up changed plugs and sensors

The first thing i would tey is changeing the fuel filter. Chevy has a problem with the design from the fuel pump to the fuel inlet on the intake manifold. What they did it is back up the power supply to the fuel pump from the fuel relay and split the curicut and ran the back up through the oil pressure sending unit . So even if the relay went bad while driveing the fuel pump would still get power and the truck wouldn't die on the road its a saftey thing .But if the relay is bad then the engine needs to build up enough oil pressure to trip the oil sending unit to send power to the pump from cranking thus a long cranking time when cold . Change the fuel filter first it should be replaced every 4 to 5 years anyway . A nd if that dosn't fix it try the relay it should be behind a panal inside the glove box on your truck and if that dosn't work replace the oil pressure sending unit. One of these 3 things should work if the fuel pump is working correctly

You will need to check fuel pressure first off. It sounds like the fuel system is bleeding off after you shut the truck off. The most common points of bleed off is the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator.
Also with all of the time it has sat you may need to run all of the gas you have out of it and fill it up with freash fuel!

The problem may be that it has 55 psi instead of 60-65. Could be the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump itself. I have read that these engines need 60 psi minimum to start reliably. Also with the engine off, look down the throttle body with a flashlight and see if the intake appears wet inside, indicating leaking central injectors. There is an upgraded injector assembly available with pressure regulator at autoparts stores. Requires 4-5 hours to replace with experienced mechanical skill level. Would definately upgrade if the pressure regulator needs replaced anyway.

Stalling

Possibly faulty ignition module is the problem, stalls when engine is hot when you sit for a while it cools off and runs again until it heats up again, those are usually the symptoms of a bad ignition module and after a while it may give out all together and not run at all, usually if the module is at fault it shuts down the fuel pump so the engine don't load up with fuel, do to when engine continuously cranks over the injectors never stop squirting fuel and flood the engine do to lack of spark which is produced by the module, this could possibly be your problem.
