2007 Jeep Compass 4x4, 2.4L engine. Throttle control body light and check engine light are on. Takes excessive fuel and when cruise control is activated at 55mph it slows down to about 40 then comes on. I did have the intake manifold valve off recently to repair a coolant leak, but seems to be re-installed correctly. Don't know how to get the car to return a code unless I take it to AutoZone. Thank you
Does the engine runs rough generally? Anyway you have to erase the code to get the engine management to run properly, because computers that's why! It could be because the faults are still there, the ECU still runs with 'faulty' parameters to compensate blah blah...
MAKE SURE ALL electrical plugs are reconnected.

on the passenger side of the engine you will see 2 small metal rods at the top of the engine just below the intake manifold there are little white clips that hold the rods on these clips usually break and the rods come off

p2004 (Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open)You need to take a look at the IMRC actuators on the intake manifold. You can try using a screwdriver or other tool to move the actuators to see if one is stuck in the open position. Do not use your fingers to do this, because if one is open and decides to close it has a bit of force behind it and can injure you. If the IMRC is stuck open, it is usually due to deposits in the intake manifold. Repair involves removing the upper intake manifold and cleaning out any deposits in the IMRC plate area. I would try running some Techron Concentrate in 2 tanks of gas to see if it dissolves enough of the gunk on the plates to free up the stuck one. Certainly a lot cheaper than having to pull the intake manifold and cleaning the plates. Always run tier one gasoline like Shell or Chevron to reduce the buidup of deposits.

There is a heater core bypass pipe that runs from the block (under the manifold) to the bacl of theengine where you will see a flat rectangular "sheet metal" thing with a pipe coming out of it. The a rubber hose connects. You need to pull the top air plenums and intake to get to it. The p[ipe flange bolts to the block with silicone rtv as a sealant.

These are all things that can affect your gas mileage and engine performance.
To check for vacuum leak, look for unhooked hoses on top of engine. If OK, use starter fluid and spray along intake manifold gaskets with engine running. If engine speeds up, there is a leaking gasket.
IAC deals with idle. Does the car idle smoothly? If not, remove IAC to see if it's dirty. I will paste instructions below for the IAC valve.
Throttle body dirty--what code is this? never heard of such a code, but you can clean the throttle body wioth carb cleaner. I will paste instructions below.
IAC valve info:
Operation
The amount of air taken in during idling is regulated by the opening and closing of the servo valve located in the air passage that bypasses the throttle valve. The servo valve is opened or closed by the activation of the stepper motor (incorporated within the idle air control motor in the forward or reverse direction. Battery positive voltage is supplied, by way of the MFI relay, to the coil of the stepper motor. The engine control module switches ON the power transistors (located within the engine control module) in sequential order, and, when current flows to the stepper motor coil, the stepper motor is activated in the forward or reverse direction.

IAC picture--mounted on top side of engine.
Throttle body--loosten clamp to right of throttle body and pull hose off. Use electric parts cleaner or carb cleaner--spray on dirt with engine running. don't touch any sensors inside throttle body--sensors are delicate.

Thank you for your comment..that helps...everything is reconnected and it usually runs smooth. It bogs down when I give it the gas and when I let up, it falls on it face. Cruise does noot work properly either....but how do I erase the codes in the computer?
